I wasn' born in the NT, but did a lot of growing up there. I got my "C" class license to drive road trains at age 17, by just driving around the block in the family ute. That was a long time ago. Now I have written two books about my, and other young blokes life style, in those trucks, in the sixties. All up, there's about sixty short stories. No way can I afford to have the two books printed, so have put them on one CD disc. One, I need an ex truckie, who is familiar with the British built Foden, Leyland. and American built "B" model Mack prime movers, to read the stories and give an opinion. Two. I need to know if it is legal to advertise for sale on this G/N site. Regards. Pipes

Hi Pipes,
What a wonderful idea. I for one would love to read/listen to your stories.
From past experience the Webmaster doesn't like us advertising ANYTHING for sale on here but you could always PM her and ask. No harm in that.

I think we should have a Buy/Sell section on here as long as it is only used by memebers to sell relevant items.

Thanks "Ma". I still have my "L" plates on, regarding computers, so, who is the Webmaster, and what does "PM her" mean. (the mind boggles) Assuming that someone "in authority" reads all this stuff, I need some help, as I won't attempt tp sell the "books" if it means stepping on someones toes. Regards. Pipes

If you click on your name "pipes" it comes up with your profile page.
On the left hand side down near the bottom you will see "new message" click on this
It then brings up a page similar to an email and up where it says recipient you type in Webmaster
Type in your message and hit submit down the bottom. Hey presto "PM" (private message) sent to Cindy the Webmaster.
When she replies to you you will see up the top on the right hand side just under your name the message that you have a private message, click on that and it will take you back to your profile page and you will see your message in BOLD in the subject column. Click on it and read her reply.

Hey Pipes, have you tried to find an agent to get published?
Why not set up a Blog to expose some of your work. Not all of it. Just snippets of your writing. You can then mention your blog on your signature which will link to your work. Others are doing it on this forum. That way you're not really advertising. You're just referring readers to another connection.
If an agent gets you published it won't cost you, and you may even make a buck or 3. It's a long road to the book shelf, but if your stories are entertaining and interesting, you could be on a winner.
It's not easy, but you can google agents for your style of work.
I've written several books, compiled short stories about some of adventures, and am still working on getting agent representation. An agent can find the most appropriate publisher to expose your work to the right market.
You could try the method of market you've mentioned, but the moderator doesn't really take advertising on the Grey Nomads forum, but you could try. All the best with your work.

Thanks for everyones help, but I still need to be contacted by an ex truckie who drove the afore mentioned trucks. I can't be the last of the Foden, Leyland and "B" model MACK road train drivers.
