What a great reception, decided that we had enough driving for the day and pulled into Iron Knob to see if there was a van park. Dropped into the pub to get some local info and a cool ale. No caravan park. The owner of the Iron Knob told us he had a 15 amp socket on a light pole that we could plug into for the night free of charge and then allowed us to use one of his cabins/unit to shower and freshen up in. So if you are in the area drop in and have an ale or three, we have thouighly enjoyed our afternoon here apart from having to change a half flat van tyre that I reckon has mud in the bead from being bogged cheers blaze

If you are stillin Iron Knob, check out the visitor centre / mueseum and have a coffe.
Home made bickies and they have the greatest collection of "MY favorite" coffee cup. No wonder I can never find one now. They have them all.

Iro Knob is on Eyre Highway just off the Pt Augusta - Pt Lincoln road.
It marks the start (or end) of a beautiful route via Gawler Ranges to Wirrula http://www.exploroz.com/TrekNotes/EyreHwy/Gawler_Ranges.aspx giving a change of scenery for East West travellers.

Iron Knob was one of the major sources of iron ore for BHP when they were in the steelworks business and before the development of the Pilbara mines.

If you are still there go to the tourist info and ask about the mine tour.
One of the best and cheapest things hubby and I have done.

There is a free camping spot near the info centre.
Thanks folks.. Seems we have a lot to discover when we head down that way. I want to see the colours of the 4 seasons too.... only get 2 colours here in Qld.
