Re the editorial on the Grey Nomads front page ... how very, very sad!

Its a reminder to us all, if we are in a remote area, to make sure we have a sat-phone, or epirb,  and NEVER leave your vehicle.

What about the two blokes who went fishing in a tinny off Stradbroke Island yesterday and were found dead this morning, No eperb or phone found.

Who was the company who did this will they be charged why did they not start a search

Maybe a good idea to wait for some facts before accusing someone of manslaughter?

It's a perfect reason to be prepared. If an EPIRB is not an option then the Flying Doctor Radio can be hired. Then there's the fact the road train driver was lost on the wrong road with little or no survival provisions. Without knowing all the facts it seems the driver wasn't prepared to go that far bush, and he wasn't advised of what he'd need. Ignorance is not bliss out in the bush. It's very unforgiving.

Having been broken down in the desert for 2 & a half days . A lot of thoughts came back & just as many questions . When I have told people about my incident , they find it a bit alarming . Why . After 2 days 2 4x4s came along AND drove straight past me . A 3rd one a couple of hrs later did stop & took me 20k back to the cattle station I was heading for . I went into survival mode as soon as the truck s*#t itself . Had plenty of snacks , but drank the last of my drinking water when I saw the 2 rooster tail of dust - mistake . Even though I tried to wave em down , both went past me . I filtered some water I had on one of the trailers & just kept my mouth moistened . Why tell this - I was only going 90k & they knew I was coming . BIG mistake . Whoever took the call - forgot to tell the station manager I was coming . Rule 1 Stay with Vehicle Rule 2 If you Think you can walk 20k to cattle station REFER to Rule 1 . Even last week I said to Pete - I use a Lot of bush tracks around where I live . DON't ALLWAYS Trust GPS , here they don't allways work . Even with OUR Bush Fire Radios - We Have SO many Silent spots - even 2-3. from a repeater . Richo

I'm so glad you had the sense to obey Rule 1 and are still here to tell us about it. You must still wonder why those people didnt stop... cant think of a good reason for two vehicles to drive past, perhaps one on their own might remember that murder at Barrow creek and be afraid.

Hey Guys n Gals, Zoomtops, not only do people just fly past on the roads, I was tossed out of my new boat a year or so back badly breaking my arm on the way over the side. This happened a mile or so out on a calmish day in Townsvilles Cleaveland Bay (Tiger Shark Alley) and the boat had 3 rods in holders with no lines out, and no anchor out... after getting back to the boat and tilting the outboard out ofthe water (a distress signal in its self), I clung to the back of the boat waving and yelling for over an hour while many boats just raced by in a hurry to get to their fishing grounds. Only after an hour of exhausting effort and a very last ditched struggle did i manage to get an orange smoke flare off and a vessel saw it an rushed to my aid. To top things off the Coast Guard that came out for the rescue didn't have a First Aider or splint kit on board even though they knew of my injuries, nor did they inform the police (SAR Commander) of the fact I had been in the water for over an hour. These are professional volunteers so it just shows that self preservation is most important wheather it be at sea, on the land or in the city...... As the Scouts say...........................
