 Happy New Year...  Now my gripe. While travelling through Echuca - Moama, I stopped at a Moama Caravan park & asked if there was a council dump point, the people in reception said they didnt know of one in Moama, but directed me to the Echuca Information centre just over the Bridge. Was told there that the only one was in the caravan park in High Street & they charge $10, no council dump point in the great tourist town of Echuca. Was told that the very small town of Gunbower has one, about 50 minute round trip if not going through the town to somewhere else, but its free.....  I payed my $10  & used the Echuca Caravan Dump point - reception told me they would open gate for me when I drove in, but forgot me until traffic backed up behind me & I thought I would need to get out of the car & run back to office & ask them to open boom gate - Actually had to go to office on way out to ask them to let me out - had about 6 cars behind me wanting to get out of park - not happy Jan......  Next time I will use Public toilets.

thats sad to hear. which way were you heading? Deniliquin is classed rv friendly and has a public dump point

Last March I was in Echuca and the park where I stayed was overpriced, and the management/reception indifferent. There was a group camped nearby that were boozy and noisy all night and the park management did nothing about it. It was raining lightly at times and it was not possible to access the amenities without walking mud inside so they were a mess. The park was handy to town but that was all it had going for it. The site fees were on a par with "top of the line" North Queensland parks in peak season. It was not only the worst park in the whole of that trip but the most expensive. Echuca is not a high priority for a return visit but if I do I'll stay at a different park, possibly over at Moama.

Camps 5 gives a list of dump points, I would NEVER pay a caravan park just to empty porta potti, in WA there are a lot of freebies with dump points.

I go to Echuca quite a lot (Christies Beach) 10 klms  Esat of Echuca   Try not  to go into Town due to the over priced and Rip off Caravan parks and Hungry Pokie machines Ha ha!   Echuca itself is nice 'But, The council and some of the retail outlets are very ordinary
They feel as if you owe them more

I know where you guys are coming from, we see the same complaints in te paper all the time. Its a beautiful town but the council needs to get its act together. Huge amounts of campers along the rivers all holidays and they won't put decent skips out for rubbish collection. Its been going on for years and the locals get out with bags after the campers have gone and pick it all up. The campers are supposed to take it with them, and put it where?? There are no bins aropund town they can drop it in without it overflowing. The complaints go in and nothing gets done.

Possibly looking for an excuse the level some sort of fee...We know how they think..Money,Money....." Money It's a councils world!

Sent a nice email to the Echuca Council...Should be interesting reply....I have asked them to Table it at the next General meeting......Re Rubbish Bins and such and dumping spots

You are quite right there.
The council want all the tourists to come but the only thing they put emphasis on is the port of Echuca.  $14 million dollars to renovate it and what can you see ?? the same old port. 
there is no money spent on the road to the paddlesteamers and it certainly is not wheelchair friendly.
Echuca is very much like all tourist towns,that is take all you can and give nothing back.
There should be a dump point at the imformation centre.

Exactly right, they all say Echuca would be nothing without the tourists but they are unwilling to do the obvious. Skips, Dump Points, a decent bridge etc. But happy to take the tourists money. AND every spot now has a parking meter, that really annoys me. I sometimes have to put money in up to 3 different places just to get my shopping done. I can go into Bundaberg and not one meter anywhere.

I loved Echuca, but stayed at a beach near Yarawonga, which cost nothing and was good fishing. I even got a helmsman certificate from the Pride of the Murray, which was a lovely old vessel. The paddle wheels were run by electric motors powered by a big generator. Next time, I will try a steam powered boat . The port area was great as I am a skipper, myself, and all the old flat bottom boats intrige me. The slipway on the NSWside was as gas , too.Some caravan parks in touristy areas think they have captive audience, and the best thing to do when you get over charged is go somewhere else, and tell everyone about it.You must be able to put comments up on Echuca,s websight, I suppose.

Took my grandkids on The Pride of the Murray yesterday, they got their certificates too and we didn't hit anything even though there were logs floating down the middle of the river.

We were happy with the caravan park we stayed in at Echuca, the town was very nice & 'Port of Achuca' was an excellent little spot with its authentic looking unpaved street.

We had no complaints except it rained for about 4 days straight so we had to wait till we got a ride on the Emmylou paddle steamer which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We also bought 5ltrs of a very nice white port from St Anne's Winery at the port.

Hows the Mossie's marj Any better and the Locusts ?

We were in Echuca over the Anzac holiday period in 2008. and loved the place, on our list to go back to. We always stay outside any touristy place and paid $20 per night at Tongala, just 20 minutes from Echuca. (was over $40 in town over Anzac holiday). Had to share one of the nicest parks we have been in with 3-4 other caravans. Bugga. also cheap IGA or similar in small tidy town. Loved our ride on the Emmy lou as well!!! Johnw

Even Mathoura(half way btween Echuca and Deniliquin) has a dump point too

I think there will be mozzies around for a while, just use plenty of spray. The locusts are not a problem, must have gone. Went out to the Riverbend Caravan park today, my son and family are staying there for a week. Gorgeous spot with all amenities, about 20 minutes out of town over the Stuarts bridge. Unsealed road from the bridge in which is the 2nd 10 minutes of the drive. They are staying in a cabin which are small but has a double bed and bunks plus a good kitdhen and dining table, and the bathroom block is along a little walkway from the front door. Each cabin has its own bathroom/ toilet. No sharing, its only down a step and along a step or two. I saw, caravans, campervans, tents, any way you want to go. Great kids playground, swimming pool, two trampolines. They even gave my grandaughter a BMX bike to ride while there. My son said there is 25 acres with lots of bush tracks to wander. If you want to come to Echuca but stay out of town I am sure this is the place. So quiet and very rural. Not far past where the Goulburn River joins the Murray.

Mozzies and locusts....were bad in our SE of SA........they just loved Aerogard and that "Off"..someone mentioned .try listerene.......any other ideas ???

The grasshoppers have made it to Gawler and the Barossa. I've seen a few around this park at Bolivar. They're everywhere, they're everwhere!

My 2 year old grandson is covered in mozzie bites from out at the riverbend caravan park, they came in to do some shopping today. Not many mozzies in town so they must be all out there. I went out well covered up the other night and didn't get one bite while out there.

Just to "clear the air".... My negative comments were directed at the particular park I stayed in, not to Echuca in general.

There are plentyy of other parks to stay in Jim and lots of activities to take in.
