I am wondering if we are the only ones to get caught out with the Woolies Rewards card when going in for fuel - you see, we spsent quite a bit at BigW last Friday, and me being me, thought 'beauty newk' 8 cents a litre off the next load of fuel - not likely, apparently you used to be able to use Big W purchases, but no longer, it just goes to your actual reward 'points'. Not happy June, when filling up both tanks on the Patrol!!!

I have a BP Mastercard and get 5% on BP fuel purchases, better than 4 cents but not as good as 8 cents that is going at some Coles and/or Woolies at present. A cent or two is not worth worrying over.

I have had the same problem Pejay and have told them so at the counter. Sick to death of spending, putting my card through, going to get petrol only to find there are no discounts of the card.
Tempted to cut it up and ask for a docket instead. I haven't heard anything about BigW not being allowed anymore. Thats news to me.

OH! the short term savings of Petrol saving coupons. We all know that what they give you in petrol, they make 100 times more on the goods you purchase to obtain the coupon ?? One of the best stories i have seen on A current affair, was about a pensioner who said he does not shop at coles or woolies, just to get a coupon to save 3 or 4 dollars on a tank of fuel. He shops at Aldi's and with the savings he he can get a full tank of fuel ???
I personally support the larger Idependant retailers, like [ Apco ] as it is only the independants that are keeping Coles and Woolies from having a free reign on the cost of fuel, and when they price the independants out of the marketplace, you will still get your discount coupons, but on the price they want to charge you, they Will end up taking over the market, and they do not mind losing 4 or 8 cents per litre Now, it is a short term investment, that will give them Huge returns in the very near future.
The trouble with getting older, is we remember the days of Free trade and a Competative Marketplace, now they control where you shop and what you pay !! Dazren,

The problem may be you now have to go on line and chose between reward points or fuel discount , I have chose reward points has I had to many fuel discount , when I want a fuel discount I don't use the reward card and get a paper fuel discount docket , they claim they are offering choices

If you reckon you're saving money shopping at Coles or Woolies , then getting the fuel discounts , you're playing with the pixies .
You save a lot more by going to the independants , Aldi , IGA , etc. in the first place .
The big 2 are way up there with fuel companies , insurance companies , banks etc. .

I first found out about woolies not giving fuel discount in WA. When I returned to Echuca I bought at Woolies only to find they had stopped and gave Quantas points instead. In Echuca it is better to get some discount as the independents here do not give any competition and the prices are high all the time. Talk about rip off the tourists and the locals. Ken

I have cut up my so called Woolies Reward card. I have found out it is more for ' their ' benefit than ours. They use the information of where u shop, what u buy, age, area, every time u swipe it. I strongly object to being tracked by this method. Big brother is watching, slyly.

I love Ald, they have excellent products at the best prices but they just don't have the selection of Woolies or Coles.
I can't see how you can save money at an IGA type supermarket, they are way dearer than Woolies & Coles when you are looking at over the $100 dollar spend mark. Also, IGA don't have specific products that we want so we would have to make a special trip to Coles or Wollies to get them after shopping at IGA.
When filling up our Landcruiser which has the main tank, reserve tank & 2 LPG tanks that 4c discount makes a significant difference to my wallet

We try to buy as little as possible from Woolworths and Coles. They just jack up the price of everything to give you a "discount" on petrol. As DAZREN said - "shop at ALDI and get a full tank with what you save...

You are right Ken, I usually buy at the little independant out on the main road. good service, friendly smiling faces etc.
I do buy my groceries at Safeway over in Moama and still expected the discount so I could buy petrol when I was there but shocked to find theres never anything on the card so going to wipe it after reading all these posts.

If I was an organised person..which I'm not...I'd go to Aldi first, then to IGA for the specials, then to Woolies or Coles for the rest.
IGA is not far away. Aldi, Coles, Woolies and BiLo...which is Coles anyway...are all in the same complex. So I guess I'm lucky to have all these choices within 10 minutes.
I didn't realize I'm not getting fuel points at Big W. But I recently found out that if you don't use your rewards card at Woolies, the discount voucher is on the docket anyway. So, yes, maybe I'll ditch the card too.

I have just been on the Everyday rewards site. It says there you have to click on something there to change from Petrol Rewards to Qantas Rewards. I also checked my status and it shows I have an 8cents discount to claim by 20th Jan, and I have only saved 5.28 in the whole year. Bit of a rip off. Like the strawberries in Safeway today, Now 5.00 a punnet today. Only 2.50 last week. A rip off and I told them so,.

On Wednesday, I went shopping for the fresh fruit for our traditional fruit salad for Christmas Day.
I find it's worth going out of my way to Mal Maninga's Fruit Shop at Waterford. I like it to be near to ripe. I don't like to risk having to wait for Woolies fruit to ripen before the day.
And it was cheaper than Woolies. I paid $7.99 kg for cherries, and Woolies was charging $12.99kg.

hello happywanderer I do use the shopper dockets because having the prado it takes 180 litres so I wait till 3/4 and put in alt least 150 lt so get the maximum benefit. It is also worth buying something for $5 in the servo as the extra 4 cents gives me $6 discount and I get the goodies plus $1. We all know that we are paying for the shopper docket.but we may as well use it as all the servo's are the same price in Echuca. Ken

We live close to a Superbarn, and I've been spoiled! No queues, plenty of choice of different brands, allowed to used the "credit" option with a debit card, and really nice fresh fruit and vegs, The vegs are a bit dearer but the extra time/fuel required to go to the markets makes it a bargain.
For many years I shopped loyally at Woolies, as they advertised they are an Australian Company, but now only when theres no choice.

Exactly right ken, every d...n petrol station, same price. Where's the competition. I see they are keeping note of it and surrounding areas in the local paper on regular basis in the hope of scaring the prices down I hope.
Lucky having such a small car, only have to put 10 - 20 dollars worth in a fortnight unless I intend going out of town.
