Camping along Murray River this festive season could be dangerous, it has been wetter this year than for along time, lots of trees have come down over tracks into popular campsites, warnings not park underthem etc are being issued by parks , officers, lagoons are full & filling, river well up at Toc, & unfortunatly the pressence mossies will be hard to handle, check local shire }moira at cobram covers vic side & berrigan shire ,nsw side, rain good for ENVIROMENT not freecamping , will keep this post updated...des

Thank you Des. Its a very popular spot for campers, they might have to make other plans this year!
Any flooding around Yarrawonga/Cobram/Tocumwal? Downstream sounds very wet indeed.

I got some bad mozzie bites over the last couple of days, the heavy rain with the warmth has brought them back.
My neighbour told me before to try meths on the bites, he holds a dampened cottonball on the bite for a while till the sting goes away, so off to buy some meths tomorrow.
Also found Bushman Insect Repellant in Priceline today, has 40% Deet in it which is supposed to be better than all other ingredients.
Also smells a lot better than the horrible Aerogard. Will try that before i go out tomorrow.

The Bushmans is good, supposed to be as good as you get. If at Priceline should be a good price. Also try white vinegar on the bites.

It was 7.99 for a 60 grm spray can.
There was a bigger one but it only had 20% Deet, not 40% as in the 60 grm.

I use Bushman, I think it's the pick of the repellents. Nothing works on bush flies however.

We have found that the original brown Listerine works best but only our opinion.

Jacko says only temporary Aussies camp under trees. Every year there is at least one death by falling limbs or trees in summer. Jacko doesnt want to be a statistic.
Roll on deodorant my dears for mozzie bites.
DEET is seriously dangerous especially in concentrations greater than 20%. Personally with Jackos knowledge she avoids using DEET. "DEET is a registered chemical ingredient that forms the active component of every chemical-based mosquito repellents. Permithrin is another chemical that when combined with DEET can cause chronic memory dysfunction and motor deficits. Chemical repellents that include DEET when applied on the topical areas easily penetrate into the skin to our blood stream and cause adverse health hazards on our central nervous system. Some DEET repellents also hold toxic chemical substances like isopropyl alcohol and ethyl that are highly harmful for children. DEET is also easily absorbed by the humans gut to cause further more health hazards."

I'm not in a position to either agree or disagree with Jacko's post, but do you have a reference or citation for those claims.

Have to agree with the Roll on Deodorant claim on mossie bites. It will work, for a while.
My neighbour told me yesterday he only ever uses meths. Puts some on cotton bud, ball or strip. Holds it on the bite till the sting goes, it won't come back.
I am trying it today, so far so good, but will be interesting tonight when the spots warm up, thats the worst time. I was awake for hours last night while my feet itched.
Don't know about the Deet claims and haven't used enough to do any damages yet if it is true.
