The below link is an RTA link for NSW. Don't know if the other states have them or not but if you look down the right hand side, once you plot your course, you can see if there are roadworks, floods etc. I thought you might all benefit from this link.

Thanks for the link, it will be really useful for us as we will be travelling from northern NSW for Christmas and there are floods at present
