Hello Milo Giving up is not the answer and I agree with Bob.
We are new at this and have not yet started travelling and are looking. Things we like , so far we cannot afford but we will keep looking and at some stage the right rig for us will be there.
We have two border collies and the oldest one we got as our then exisitng dog was getting old and she was the best thing that happened to us and to him. Since then, he died and we acquired, by accident a second and younger border collie. He is a huge gentle giant , loving and fun and he has helped ease the loss of our old friend. Would you be prepared to go and look at adopting one?
www.bcra.org.au is a site where they rescue border collies and put them up for adoption. Might be worth a try . They operate out of all states, I think.
I know it is not easy and that it can be difficuolt not to feel discouraged but please do not leave the forum. You have a lot to offer newbies like me and I would miss your posts.

Right Milo, it could be time for THAT little chat.
I can understand where you're at, and only you can decide what happens next.
Get in the car and go for a drive, in any direction, or to a place you've always wanted to see, not too far from home. Whether it's a day trip or an overnight is your choice.
You're still missing your little mate, and that's very easy to understand. You've lost a member of your family, and mourning is natural.
There's a void in your heart and your life.
How you heal and/or fill the void is also up to you.
Your contributions on GN are always informative, interesting and sometimes amusing.
Never lose your sense of humour. It may have dulled a little through this time, but it will come back.
Don't ever stop laughing!
The campervan will be there when the time is right. I looked for my van for 18 months, but it's the exact van I was looking for and suits me perfectly. I can tow it forwards AND Backwards.
Things happen in our lives for a reason.
To be fair to yourself you may need to have a chat to your doctor.
Whatever you do, do not leave GN. Check out the jokes.
We are all your friends here - by virtue of having, or wanting to have this lifestyle in common.
I'm currently in Townsville catching up with a long-time Pt. Lincoln girlfriend who's heading north, and I'm heading west to go south. That's travel and life.
Be kind to yourself and stay upright.

hey milo,, **** man everyone has up's and downs,, thats just a part of life,, i suffer from bi polar disorde soi know what 'up's and downs" are all about at one stage i'm ashamed to say i even tried to take my own life by crashing a B double semi trailer, fortuneatly for me i'm still here to tell the tale and all it did was hurt a lot, that was over 20 years ago,, ithought i'd never recover from that but i did, now i have a wife who loves me and 2 dogs who do the same, now the wife bit may not be your thing but i hope you can see where i'm coming from,,, sure when your down and trying to "save" for something it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel but while you're trying and looking around your always moving just that one step closer to your goal. but if you just give up and throw the towel in you'll never reach it,,just think how you'll feel when you do finaly reach the light at the end of the tunell and can set of an do what you want,, after all don't they say that anything worth having is worth waiting for...i can't say keep going or give up thats up to you, all i can say is if you throw away your deams then you'll never know what might be or what you're capable of
anytime you need a chat let me know via here
I think you might be surprised at the number of friends you have
cheers

If you cant afford your campervan now, get a tent. I have spent many weekends camping and fishing with just a tent, a gas light a single burner cooker a sleeping bag, an esky and a milk crate to sit on. It dosent have to be that spartan, but around the house there has to be the basic items to get yourself out and about. Its not about fancy motorhomes and caravans, its all in the attitude

Maaate. Contact one of the motorhome rental mob as they need vehicles relocated all around Aust. & the costs can be minimal.
There are other alternatives to enjoying the travel bug so just put on the old "thinking-cap" & get to, right!!!

Ah Milo, know exactly where you are coming from, as a Vietnam Vet (?) you could maybe make use of the VVCS - they certainly were fantastic when I needed them a couple of years ago, and it's free! Milo hang in there mate - you had better stay on the road, 'cause one day we will meet up and have a beer together!!

Hang in there Milo. We can't afford to lose you. You're one of the good guys. Life can be tough at times, but we have to carry on.
It seems lately, that every time I think I'm getting closer to being able to start travelling again, something comes along, to put the Ky-bosh on it.
Last week, I just touched another car, [just left a bit of paint, not even a dent] in the hospital car-park, and it's costing me $500.00 excess. It's one step forward, two steps back at the moment. I'm on a pension too. No other income.
Cheers, Sheba.

It's just not your year Milo.
First your best furry mate and now your feathered mate.
Right! Now you are free to travel to new horizons and even greener pastures, at least for a visit.
The suggestion to relocate motor homes and camper vans is a beauty. Wish I thought of it.
Check out the rental mobs and see what they require of you. Most only require a standard drivers licence.
Allow yourself to heal. Allow yourself to mourn. Allow yourself to get used to their absence.
Take as long as you need, and then you need to take that first step forward.
You can't go back. You have the good memories. When you're ready, take that first step forward.
No one can push you in this until you're ready. It has to be at your pace, but as long as any movement is forward, it's a good thing.
No everyone can just jump out of bed next morning to leave tragedy behind them instantly.
Progress might be slow, but it is progress.
Take care, and don't be too hard on yourself.

Like I said Milo, didn't even put a dent in the other car. Reversing out very slowly, and as soon as I felt it, I stopped and went forward again. Trying to see either side, and she was right behind me. Didn't see her at all. Large 4x4's either side, and you know what it's like trying to see beyond them.
If these come out OK, [I still can't see them] you'll see why I'm not happy about what I have to pay. The other car was Red.
Cheers, Sheba.

Just a scrape of Black paint on her Red car. Apparently I have to put in a claim and pay the excess before she can get her car door repainted.

Milo... Petngail had a great suggestion.... get a tent for awhile. Roger and I threw a tent in the boot of our sedan, travelled around Qld for a month...camping on any creek or river that looked like it might have fish in it, and we had a ball. Didn't catch any fish... but we sure did meet some lovely people. The world and all it's troubles went away. Start being kind to yourself mate. You've had a rough time of it lately, but as was said... you are sure appreciated on this forum. Chin up mate.
Dellie. ps Took us 2 years to find the right van for us.

Milo, our rig cost us less than $10,000 and we travel on the pension.
If we run a bit short we find somewhere nice to hole up until the pension comes in again then we move on.
After all is said and done we have plenty of time God willing, so just mosey along at a good fuel conserving pace and enjoy the best country in the world.
Keep a positive attitude and you will get there old son.
PS: editited for big fingers and small keys.
