Was walking past the kitchen table this morning and the cover of one of management's womans magazines (Take 5), edition Oct 13 took my eye. Article "We've been on holidays for 22 years) page 20. Ray and Peg hit the road 22 years ago and their still going strong. I was wondering whats the longest any one has, or has met someone who has been on the road a long time. We met a bloke, Johonno at Stanage who had been travelling solo for 10 years, which was pretty impressive but how long does anyone know here? Oh yeah and before people jump on me NO NO i am not addicted to women's magazines.

Hi All,
Sorry if this is rude or something but I have never used a Forum before. My Boss and I are joining Nomads in Jan/Feb 2011 and I am looking for some advice on how to setup the problem of snail mail that will keep comming to our home? Is there a service that anyone can recomend?

We have been on the road as full time nomads for 9 weeks now and loving it. Wondering why it took us so long to do it.
We have no permanent address so use a mail forwarding service. Poste Haste. They are fantastic to deal with.
At Albury NSW at the moment on the banks of Lake Hume which is now full for the first time in 14 years.

In June we camped with a couple in a big old purple bus towing a purple 4x4. They had been full time on the road for seven years, just picking up work here and there and bopping along rather happily.

Hi Pete, sounds like it might be a couple we met at the caravan park at Gilgandra last Christmas - can't remember how long they had been on the road, but it sure was a pretty long time.

Its just wonderful to see so many doing it, no! taking all the things that you will never use with you as you track around..Yes we did just that, i could have replaced any bit on the tug anyplace ,when we first took off. now its just what we need and some thing less.. We try to spend xmas at home if we can. And it,s time to do the throw out. all the things we didnt use on the last 2 trips is left home.. Its so hard to leave this and that when you might need it.... be hard on your self.. Been traverling since 1994. the longest stint was 3years away from home..our youngest looks after things while we are away.
I know if you dont have a home where do you dump it..I dont know...have a garage sale..
Im just trying to help here, most do it carry all the things you may need. next time you camp with someone just ask them. how much stuff do you take with you and never use it..
Its good to be on the road and have that inderpendance.............even if it dose weigh a ton..
just kidding , smile we are all the same.....

Slightly OT but for Jon's (Jonathan) information the Ray and Peg in the Take 5 article Pete mentioned in the OP is "Pegray".
Shirley gets that mag and that article caught my eye having met Ray and Peg a couple of times at HF Radio Club meets, but more particularly the photos, sadly, of his home built motorhome burning to the ground a couple of years back.
Ray is President of the HF Radio Club.

We left Melbourne March 2009 - so 20 months on the road. Our home is our van and we hope to be on the road for another 4-5 years. We recently spent 3 months in Mission Beach where the fishing was awesome. Next year we intend going up the WA coast, across the top and back to Mission Beach by July. We are currently biding our time in Hervey Bay waiting for the weather down south to get a bit better. We will be spending December and part of January in Melbourne visiting our children.
cheers,
