I have suffered from cold sores for as many of my 60 plus years as I can remember . Only recently was told of a certain cure , and it does work .
At the first hint of a cold sore ( that tingling feeling in the lips ) get a piece of ice , hold on the dreaded spot for a few minutes , and the cold sore won't develop any further .

I find that one dab of Tea-Tree oil as soon as the tingling starts usually stops the things in their tracks. On rare occasions a second dab a few days later may be needed. I rarely have cold sores now. The Tea-Tree oil seems to have a permanent effect to some degree.

Hi there,
My daughter suffered from cold sores and I found that giving her Llysine tablets when she felt them coming on stopped them in their tracks.
Cheers

hi there, like you i am new to the forum,(2 days at this print) i have had trouble with cold sores TRYING to jump on the lip for many years. i find that the ice cube is the cure for me. not just a 'bit' of ice, i grab an ice cube out of the freezer & hold it on the spot with a flannel or such like,(don't wrap the ice cube in it) until cube is gone. i may do this 3 times a day, but it works for me. just a side thought, my cold sores never start to appear until i am starting to STRESS about something . so preparing to get on the road permanently should be a bonus for me have a good one.

Mum used to put metho on ours - it hurt like mad. I dont really recommend it, though like lilly's lady friend with the perfume it may be a similar "cure"

Every winter, I used to get a cold sore in my nostril or near the edge of it, and boy was it ever painful! I found the chemist preparations good, but they wouldn't stop the sore from actually developing. I started dabbing Tea Tree Oil on the spot where it was sore, and lo and behold, the sore never developed and I've been cold sore free now for the last few winters, so I think Rolly may have it right when saying that it seems to permanently cure them. I've often been going to do some digging and delving with Google into what bush medicines the Aborigines used for different things, because by golly, Nature's products seem to work the best a lot of the time.

Guess what? I just stopped a cold sore (on my lip - first one I've had there since I don't know when) in its tracks. I didn't feel a tingle, as usually happens, it just swelled up a little, and had a tiny white middle in it. I put a sharp pin in antiseptic, pricked the white spot, and whacked on some pure Ti-tree oil. Stung like you know what, but I only had to do it twice, and it's gone - in 2 days. Good stuff!
