I use Mozilla Firefox for my browser and have "AdBlock" (a Firefox Add-On) installed so I don't get these annoying ads.
Any ad (or email too) suggesting you have won something in a competition or draw that you have not knowingly entered should be treated with the utmost suspicion.

These things drive one mad don't they - I suppose they must get some suckers who think they really are winners!!!
Another thing that irks me is - why do I keep getting offered "flirty Russian wives" - what am I supposed to do with them - I am a woman.

Hi Everyone, The Grey Nomads forum is actually a 'free' forum which is hosted by a third party. Our forum 'hosts' sell adverts, put them online and collect the revenue from the ads. If we want an ad-free forum we have to pay the hosts a monthly fee. I've checked into it and it is still a bit over our budget - however we may reconsider this in the future. In the meantime, I'll write to them to see if they can tone down the flashing ads a bit. Fingers crossed!

Well, seems we have to put up with them then. Toning down the flashing would be great if thats all that can be done, otherwise, Don't look up!!

Oh Cindy!!! Why do you have to go and spoil our fun of having a bit of a groan - and besides Happywanderer, sounds like your intelligence is above mine, 74 indeed!
We can't be too bad though, have just noticed we have become 'Seniors' - YES!!!! I have the grey hair - had it for years - pensions at the end of the year, and Senior's card next July!!! Life is starting to be good!!

Well Cindy, if the host insists on putting the ads on your site, maybe you can charge them for the privilege.
You pay for the space, not for the advertising, and to have to pay not to have it, sounds a bit dodgy to me.
Charge the host for the unsolicited use of your site space.
More than one way to skin a cat.

My husband John fiddles with Yahoo! sometimes. They splash ads right across the news he is reading, which causes some choice comments before he can delete it. Just be thankful that you little ad stays put at the top where it can be ignored!
