You can get them in liver/red. My sister has 3 border collies. All black and white. The youngest has a liver coloured father.
Never seen a blonde but sure is a beautiful pup.

Have been trying to Post some shots of Blonde Border Collies, but for some reason, I'm being blocked all the time.
Anyway, wasn't "Lassie" a Blonde Border Collie ? If you google, you'll find other colours too.
I like the look of the "Blues".
Will try and Post just 1 shot, and see if that works.
Cheers, sheba.

My niece has a blonde Border Collie too. She calls her Dusty Boris...don't ask me why Boris, no idea!
She's a beautiful dog, but hyperactive!
Good luck!

Sheba,
Lassie was a Scotch Collie, or more commonly called a Collie dog. And the colour was known as sable with a white collar, feet and tip of tail.
Have had collies for years. After the last one died, we moved to the suburbs and with a smaller back yard, ended up getting a Shetland Sheepdog, which could be called a mini collie. Beautiful dogs.
Cheers
Ross

I stand corrected. How many types of Collie are there ?

Lovely dogs, Borders are the best!!
The dogs in these photos are actually called 'red', which as you know there are varying shades of red. The breed standard has the colours that are recognised as being....Black..Tri..Red..Chocolate...Blue..and.. Blue Merle.
Pure bred dogs have a long coat and short coated dogs are normally a cross bred or a throwback to a previous cross which you will often see at sheepdog trials. I have only seen blacks and reds in the show ring with the occasional blue.
The 'Lassie' dogs, in the ring are called 'Collie Rough' and they also have a 'collie smooth' which has very short hair. There are other 'collie' dogs around but I can't remember the names off the top of my head.
Cheers
Allara (and six blacks)

The Collie dogs as in Lassie have a much longer slender nose than a border collie.

Hi Sheba
As Allara says, the two main types of collie are rough, and smooth. Rough is the normal type collie that you would know. Smooth is the same colour but short haired.
The standard colours are as I described in my earlier post, but they also come in black, which will be a black dog with white collar, chest, socks and tip of tail. There is also a tri colour dog which is largely a black dog, with the white as described and a sable blaze down his muzzle. You can also get them in blue merle, which is largely grey, and looks real shabby. Haven't seen any of these around for years, come to think of it, you rarely see the normal ones around much these days either.
A border collie is a distant relation.
Cheers
Ross

Hey everyone,
Allara is right on the money, Mum had a Tri bitch who was CD, CDX and had been shown at the Sydney Royal Easter Show when it was still at Randwick, she bred Border Collies for many years & had a few of the pups go on to become champions of various degrees...
Without trying to be a smart ar$e the correct name for the dog named "Lassie" is actually a Collie Rough here in AU, and the colouring of the blond pup will prob darken with age, maturity into a redish brown.
Anyways that is one great looking pup, train train tain & keep it exercised and all tukkered out and it will be a good mannered well behaved dog, they are one of the most intelligent and the best friends and so faithfull.
How you doing anyways Milo, hope all is well.

I think you will find she will darken up as she reaches maturity and will become a red and white border collie, the red/whites are nearly this colour when they are pups

Just found some photos of my sisters border collies and also another couple I took photos of while with her at a show she was competing in. Will try to upload.
Hi Happywanderer,
Love your photos. The dogs in photo 2 and 3 are Aussie Shepards arn't they ?
I was speaking to my breeder (dog, that is) on the w/e and she told me that they are just now recognising the colour 'wheaten' for border collies as there is an increasing number of light colour 'reds'. This only happened in June/July and is not yet in the standard.
Your sister looks to be doing trialling or obedience where my guys do showing and sheep work at home.
Wouldn't be without them.
Cheers
Allara

Yes Allara, that is correct, my sister does obedience. The one in number 4 in 1st photo won for her last weekend.
By the way that is in New Zealand.
Not sure what the breed is of those two at number 2 or 3, they do look like a border collie multi colour don't they.
I was with her at that particular show back in April and took photos of nearly every dog there.
