Called at the Home Hill Free Camp on Saturday it is a great set up , but local tell me they are getting fed up with the dunking back packers who stay for long time and make a nuisance of them self

There are always those who will take advantage of anything that is offered for free and then muck it up for those who really appreciate what is offered. It's not just backpackers either we have come across a few nomads who really stretch it to the limit and then yell the loudest when that "offer" is withdrawn.

Home Hill does a great job in looking after their visitors, its a shame a few freeloaders ruin things for the majority.
In the 70's we were marooned in Home Hill because of floods, along with several hundred others, including a trainfull of passengers, and the people of Home Hill were great. The bakery worked overtime to keep us fed, but there wasnt any profiteering as we'd seen in other places. Some of the trapped visitors went to help with sandbagging , so it works both ways.

South of Townsville, accross the Burdekin River from Ayre, on the Bruce highway. Surrounded by sugar cane farms... or used to be.
