We will be in Bourke in a couple of days, and am looking to take a run from Bourke to Louth. Will be leaving the van in Bourke, so any up to date and informed info on the condition of the road would be appreciated.
Make sure you call into the Tilpa pub if you get down there. Very similar to the William Creek pub & as many larikens.
I travel that road frequently from Qld to Mildura via Broken Hill, but don't try it if it's been raining.

Doug,
If you got the rain at your place that they got in Kingaroy last night, you won't be going anywhere for a few days I would think. The billabongs should be right up near the top by now too.
Check you "wellies" for spiders.
Cheers

Hi Ma, got 40mm o/nite but track in is useable, just. Only minor top-up to billabongs but should help the yabbies etc. Bright & sunny now so won't take long to dry out. Maybe you should have stayed a bit longer!!
Safe travelling

Thommo,
There is a "road condition" sign at the start, just off H'way about 5klms south of Bourke. That will tell you if the road is open or closed. The section to Louth has been extensively upgraded, so there shouldn't be a problem there. The sections to Tilpa & on to Wilcannia are a different story, both west & east of the river, so heed the sign. It is nigh impossible even with a 4WD & penalities apply if you are caught using it when it is declared "closed", as it chops up the road, especially if it has just been graded.

We both wish we could have stayed a bit longer Doug. After getting down to Gympie and all the hustle and bustle and vehicles, makes you appreciate even more what you have out there. Give us the bush anytime.
On the other hand, this can be a beautiful under rated track, when we travelled it, the darling was dry, which brought its own charm. Take it as you see it, but be wary of the conditions.
