Would like to here from previous nomads who have worked the harvest.

Just limit it to factuality; not like someone we had on here a while ago who invented all kinds of scenarios.

There was a character on CF that got interested in working the silos in SA. He found the newcomers get the worst jobs. There were 2 vans plugged into power at the local store that had been closed and was the only building in town. He was working where they tip the loads. It was the hottest place and extremely dusty. He did not last the season, only a few weeks. I last heard of him in WA.

There are 3 areas of working the wheat harvest. There is the harvesting crew, truck drivers and the silos.

Harvesting with the header is a good job and requires a certain level of mechanical ability to change blades, fingers, belts, unjam clogs and service machine. None are jobs that require a lot of physical work or strength.

Truck driving is long hours and can mean living out of your truck cab. Always glad when you get a break with harvester mechanical break downs or bad weather.

All are good jobs. The silos never put mature age people in dusty or physical jobs. They put the grey nomads on weighing, testing, paper work. They use grey nomads in areas that require reliability and attention to detail.

Having first aid certificate and OHS card will guarantee you a job.
