Dazren, it is the wet season at that time.
It will be HOT and WET. Not pleasant.
That is when people go "troppo".

Definitely NOT the time to go Daz.  Anywhere from October through to May is better to stay away.  They actually call October suicide month.   My other half lived up here for a few years (in another lifetime) and although he loves it, says the humidity is murder.

We are in Darwin now and it's just great.  very little humidity and a constant temperature.  20 - 33 most days

We lived there for a few years many years ago and I always tried to escape with the kids to my parents in Melbourne in January as the heat and continual rain makes that time of the year really really unpleasant. There is also the chance of cyclones and if you intend to venture out of Darwin to Kakadu etc many roads are closed at that time of year, making travel difficult and expensive and hire agreements nearly always mean you cannot take hire cars to those areas in the wet.

Thank you all for your quick replies, we will not be going there at this time based on all your learned comments, this forum sure is the best way to find the facts,from people who have been there done that !! so now we will work out where we will go for a 12 day break in january, this time with the vans [ i prefer them to planes anyway ] Maybe somewhere like the Barossa Valley, or Moonta Bay, in south aust.

hi mate if you are lookig for somewhere to go and are in South Australia why not try Marion bay at the foot of york peninsular, good swiming beaches fishing isn't bad either, i can get a little hot at that time of year but it's summer it's hot everywhere,,, we have a holiday house down there and i try to get there as much as i can until the time comes that i can retire there and use it as a base to explore the rest of the country,, just a thought

I was down on southern Yorke Peninsula 2 weeks ago. I travelled from Cairns to 14deg, wind and rain. It's nicer in summer, although when I was there last January we had 3 days over 40deg. You choose. There are great beaches and fishing spots in that part of the world. Because my family moved there I've become a regular visitor, and may park up there for a few months late spring and early summer after I leave Cairns. The wet season isn't as bad as the build-up - "The doldrums", when the humidity drops out of the sky and there is no wind. Once the rains begins it's more tolerable. That time of the year is spectacular in the Kimberleys, Broome in particular, if you love thunderstorms. They are huge, colourful and noisy for hours. It's not as humid in Darwin and there's always a breeze. All travel experiences. Safe and happy travel wherever you go.

Also Port vincent is a good park and very good fishing off the jetty or if you have boat good snapper, then if you want from there you could just pop over the nulabour to perth oh if you play golf you could play the longest golf course in the world
have fun out there its a great back yard which ever way you go mate
