this is off topic but we all pay rego. and insurance and road taxes and as caravan owners we all use the road ,but are we getting value for money? I was in China for two months recently and got friendly with a few engineers and I aked them how long it would take to build certain type of infrastructers.I live in Adelaide so wil give some local comparisons. 3 kils. of tram track adelaide 2years still not finished. China 4months finished. 4 lane under pass 2.5 yeras still more closed than open. China 6 months finished. 20 kils. of expresseway 2 years and counting. China 1 year finished. So I think we are well and truly getting ripped off.I worked on a road gang for over 15 years many years ago and I think we turned out more mile of road with less equipment than they do now so some thing is wrong some where. So they bring in immigrants for every thing else then why not let the Chinese have go at least we would get value for money and with a lot less hassel with road works. al

The Chinese have a veritable army of workers on their projects and they pay them peanuts. Have that many Aussie workers on a project and the payroll bill would bankrupt the country.

I was in India a year ago and I was amazed at the lack of machinery on all types of construction including roads - almost everything is done "the old fashioned way" by hand. The grunt work is sometimes done by Elephants, donkeys or very skinny horses but mostly by humans. I think I prefer our methods.

like one liner - i lived in pakistan for 3 years and remember seeing road gangs breaking rocks with small hand hammers!!!! very cheap labour, also saw men painting houses by dipping rags in buckets of paint, wringing it out and "painting" the walls...

When ever we pass through major road construction sites there is alway large groups of people just standing around talking, does make one wonder.
