We were down at the Tweed just on a drive, with our caravanning friends. We decided to have a look at a couple of caravan parks, just for a possible weekend away. No names no pack drill.... but one of the parks on the beach quoting from their flyer..... Beach Front Tourist Site (powered), and you couldnt see the beach just the scrub in front of it Peak period... $50 per night. I know a lot will say "well just dont go on peak", thats fine but management works in a school, and we love to take the grandkids also on school hols... just wondering whats the most you have paid, or asked to pay for a site?

We've spent the last 12 months going up the centre and down through WA, and the most expensive area was the Pilbara, powered sites in mid to high $30's per night, ensuite site at Point Samson was $49 pn. In the whole trip, we averaged about $29 pn for a powered site and $38 pn for an ensuite site.

thanks marter i would however its not much of a trip as its only 300 metres from the front door...lol. couldnt agree more with justcruisin - lots of rip off van parks between tweed and sunshine coast. one thats not and we use often is donnybrook. very nicely situated too. i can stay there and management can commute to work...

I think you guys might have got off cheap!!! Prior to our trip to Canberra at Christmas/New Year 09/10, we considered coming back up the north coast of NSW after stopping off in sydney for a night or two. Ha! Let's just say, at least three caravan parks I contacted from the Central Coast right up to The Tweed wanted $105-110 a night for a powered sight - I actually rang their 1800 no. to check if they were pulling my leg or not - they weren't! Needless to say, we came back home via an inland route.

We have travelled during peak and off peak, you certainly notice the difference in site fees. The most we have paid in $75 for an ensuite site, very nice park though. The odd story that we have though is when we went to rebook at a park on the Sapphire Coast (NSW), same time of the year and the same site, we were told that we would be charged a "preferred site fee" of $5 extra per day,i.e we would pay extra because we had a preference for a particular site. Needless to say we told park management what they could do with this and never rebooked. Have since heard that the park management has changed hands. Has anyone else had this experience?
