I only have a 4 burner gas cooktop in our Toyota Coaster, no oven or grill.
I was thinking of buying a Toaster Oven as I am told that you can cook roasts, cakes etc in them, but they look small.
In next weeks Aldi catalogue they have a Convection Oven on sale for $39.99 and it has a 12 litre capacity. You can roast, bake, grill, fry and defrost in it and it looks like a good size for storing in the cupboard under the double bed.
Which one would you go for???

Anne loves hers for home cooking.
Friends use theirs free camping but it requires at least 2kva to run it. Had lots of lemonade scones etc on our last trip with them.
My little Honda 10i wont boil a jug. bugga.

I have the original, proper, genuine Easy Cook (said with snobby look on my face ) that is probably not one jot better than the Aldi one!

Hi Sandy - I'm trying to find the best way to manage the catering on the road, too - will be very interested to hear your opinion of the convection oven, as it has been suggested to me. We've just bought a 2005 Ford Transit camper, three burner gas cook top and gas grill oven, but apparently the oven is only good for grills. Like you, I want to be able to do roasts, cakes etc. Another gadget you might find a use for is a thermal cooker - I bought one recently, and its great. I made some chunky chicken soup one morning when leaving home - chopped up chicken breast, every vegetable known to man, etc. - simmered it for about 15 minutes then put the pot into the thermal carrier, and at 6 that night it was thoroughly cooked, and still piping hot. Add lots of fresh, crusty bread for a quick and simple meal. Google "Magic Cooker" for a pleasant surprise pricewise!

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions guys.
Will definitely go and buy the Convection Oven on Thursday at Aldi and let you all know how I go with it.
Jimricho, I bet the Aldi one is just as good as the REAL one and at $39.95 it is definitely in my price range
Will also check out the "magic cooker" as well.

Sadly, Aldi have not seen fit to open a store in Perth . . . very frustrating! Cheers, Tony

What a lovely lot of suggestions came out of this topic. Had a Jayco once without an oven, know the frustration! The Magic Cooker sounds like it's worth pursuing have always wanted one but found them pricy. Met a couple in NT travelling with car and tent who swore by their cooker.

The only consolation, Sandym is I bought it with frequent flyer points I was "burning off" before cancelling the credit card they were linked to. In my case the term "frequent flyer" is a misnomer, Infrequent Flyer is more the truth.

Hi all we have a cobb cooker that cooks anything you can cook at home using 5 to six brigettes we find it great when on free camp sites without any power Helena. Might add Bill is usually the cook.

Hi Sandy, just wanted to know if you picked one up yet? We also have one we bought from Homeart over 12 months ago now and I use it at home all the time. Specially when I get home from work and have forgotten to get the meat out of the freezer, you can cook your meat in it from frozen and it is still so tender.
Just thought I would add my 2c worth :)

That means you'll need a breadmaker too!
