Hi everyone on board, Can anyone tell us where and how to find work on the road, as we are a little confused as lots of people say its easy to find work but how to find it is the question?  We have experience in Administration and Automotive spare parts along with retail. We are aged 58 & 62.

We would like a little help.

It's a tricky one. For some reason people are reluctant to employ people of our age, despite the fact we have THE work ethic - "an honest day's work for an hones day's pay", and we don't mind hard work. Seasonal fuit block work seems to be the monopoly of the back packers. If you get in early you may be ok. If you're travelling, businesses are reluctant to employ travellers who will be moving on. My policy on this is, no less then 3 months, no longer than 6, if you're seriously travelling. If you're prepared to put you hand to almost anything within your capabilities, you could get work at remote roadhouses. You can park up out the back, do the job, have some fun with everyone else out there, and the travellers that pass through. Stations often need helpers of all persuasions - cooking, housekeeping, gardening, maintenance, special projects. If you have checkout experience you can get a job almost anywhere, casual, part time and full time. I think the same could apply to the auto part experience. Think about your skills, your hobbies and things you'd like to do. Think about which way you're travelling, and then plan ahead a few weeks, to give you time to travel there and settle in. You can sightsee between shifts etc. There are web sites specifically dealing with this sort of thing, especially out bush. Set up your hobbies to make the things you make and sell them in the park with the approval of the park managment, or set up a stall at the local markets according to their conditions. Lots of options. Lots of chances for you to explore your own talents and skills. Good luck and safe and happy travels. It's not hard it you want to do it.

Caravan parks have notice boards and you can sometimes find employment on those a couple of years ago we were in W.A. and the caravan park asked us if we would like to help with the cleaning they were prepared to give us a free site and all our food that we needed from the store, no money involved but a great opportunity to settle for three months and save the pension and we were aged 70 and 76 so there are opportunities out there . hm thats a tough one , if you are fit and can do fruit , down here in sunshine coast we have strawberries, they hire people to plant and pick them, thenthere is ginger? also they do have pineapple picking but i am told that is one tough job?. otherwise the best advice is as above get on a site or google work for travellers, i once met a couple who were about sixty many years ago they were tomatoe pickers in bundaberg and were about to buy a hotel, they had been picking for a long time going up and down coast saved there money and were buying some outback pub that was many years ago now. good luck ,google is the best site just type in work for travellers it will bring up many sites cheers for now
