Greetings, Still pursuing my interest in the Nissan Navara D40 auto (gotta love that space), have any GNs got one and would care to comment (PeterD?). My worry is that they may be a bit underpowered, although all I want to tow is a CT, not a big van. Cheers, Tony

A mate just picked up his Navara D40 & has taken it up to Toowoomba with his van to get a canopy fitted on the tray back. I think his is the extra cab .. the one with the extra 1/2 cab & suicide doors at the rear, plus a aluminium tray back.
So far is very happy with it but dissapointed with lack of fittings like sun visors & rear drum breaks, like lots of similar utes. But it's got some unexpectedly good electronics .... he tells me.
Overall very happy ... so far.

Nothing wrong with the amount of power in a D40 diesel. If I am holding people up on hill it is because it has tight bends.. (I tow 2.0 tonnes when the van is loaded.) I would suggest going for the auto box, I have been led to believe you have to use a fair amount of clutch slip when taking off in a manual. The other problem with a manual is the dual mass flywheels don't like heavy work (same with all the manual utes.)
A friend has towed his 24' Future Systems with several tugs. He describes the performance of his current Pathfinder as much better than the 3.0 diesel Patrol but not as good as his 4.8 Patrol on gas. The pathfinder has the same mechanicals as the D40 (except for the independent rear suspension.)

The only thing I had against the Navara - The seats were crap... Loved the unit, nearly brought one - When driving 4 - 6 hours need comfy seats.....

I tow a 19' Regent with my Navara and it is a real good as a tug, plenty of power when needed with reasonable economy and hills don't seem to hurt that much. Overall I'm pretty happy although one of those twin turbo V8 'cruisers would be nice but who can afford one?

G'day Seaman Staines. I think I might know two people that you may have served with. I may well be wrong so please correct me if i am.They are both retired now but were around for some time. Mainly based in the UK but did some time out here. Do you remember Captain Pugwash and his first officer Master Bates? I do with fond memories

just bought a pathfinder 2.5 auto but have not towed a van as yet but am very pleased with everything about it .It seems to have enough power .I had a 2.8 td patrol and only 96kw towed a 19 foot van around aussi and done it easly so we are going to do it again soon but this time it will be a 22 foot jayco.Cant wait will be off in august 2010
