Hi Everyone, my first post. Am planning to travel to The Kimberley beginning of April Wanting to get feed back from experienced travellers who have travelled this route (or legs of this route):
any advice regarding road conditions, fuel stops, overnight camps would be appreciated. We have a diesel Maverick towing a camp trailer.

Hello Kim,
Sounds good ,a big trip for the time frame. We have done 95% of what you are attempting. The Channel country you will have to check at the time as to water crossings,we went that way 2yrs back & there was water accross the road in many places but passable, that was in early march. We are on our way to the NT at the moment ,[still at G/Coast ] & all rivers in SW QLD have low to moderate flooding so that part may be wet for some time.
Gibb Rv 2yrs back had rain in June, we had to wait a few days, Tanami will be the longest with out fuel. Its 20yrs since we done it & there was a new servo about 200kls out from Alice, there was one mission ,very Iffy & Rabbit flathas fuel ,only on certine days, it was Iffy as well. Not sure how things are now.
Good luck.

Hi Kim and welcome to the forum.
We did the Tanami in '08. Had only one puncture but I think thats because we had to go around a broken down B-Double and caught a stick.
Rabbit Flat is supposed to be closing this year sometime, not sure when. It was a great spot and it is only open certain days as Justcruisin indicated. It is one of my favourite memories of our trip, the stay there.
Wouldn't do the Tanami again until it is sealed personally. Not a lot of spots to camp either and heaps of camels so don't attempt driving after dusk.
The Gibb River we did part of as well and it was another beautiful spot. We are going again this June but we won't tow this time. Want to do the Bungle Bungles and you can't pull a van in there.
I don't think you would be disappointed no matter which way you go mate, its all amazing and holds its own beauty.

yep all good, take your time and carry plenty of spares, we stomped around up there a heap during the late seventy's and early eighties, just go slow!

The Gibb River Road north would be a breeze for your rig, as it would be on the Windjana road.
The Tanami is one of those roads, like the Strez Track which is there but not really maintained. So you take your chances on all those development roads etc.
Please do your research and ASK THE LOCALS. They know the conditions better than anyone.
It sounds like a wonderful trip travelling off the beaten track. If you do your homework it should be magic. All the best - safe and happy travels.
Wanting to get feed back from experienced travellers who have travelled this route (or legs of this route):
Travelling west to Windorah then taking the Diamantina Development Rd to Bedourie then on to Boulia to the Donohue Hwy / Plenty Hwy to Alice Springs to Uluru. Hubby is thinking of a short cut from Uluru to Kings Canyon then to the Tanami Road (not sure about this) to Northern Hwy > Fitzroy Crossing > Windjana Gorge Rd > Gibb River Road > Kununurra an back via the bitumen if time permits going to Kakadu (have 10 weeks) long service leave from work.
Our main concerns are the channel country crossing, the simpson desert, Tanami and Gibb River Road.
any advice regarding road conditions, fuel stops, overnight camps would be appreciated.
