Hello Scott and Kym,
Welcome to the Grey Nomads
Bob and I are newbies too and have never been on the road before. We are starting from scratch and have bought a Mitsubishi Pajero 2008 model. Now the big decision on which make and model of van to buy, new or second hand etc. We hope to be on the road within a year, all going well.
I began by asking questions on this sight and everyone is very friendly and keen to offer advice very quickly.
Cheers for now, Gail

Thanks Gail and thanks to all for the welcomes, We are still a few years off from heading out, but getting organised to do so (never to early to start).. Mum & her partner have been on the road for almost 10 years now and we love hearing about their adventures (and believe me aplenty they have had lol). We love there set up and decided thats what we want for our early semi-retirement. Have told Scotty he is to young to retire permanently. About another 10 yrs before we make our move, the lil folk have to leave first, even though they say they are never going,( I am sure that must be a boy thing).. So for the next 8-10 years we will seek advice in preparation for our journeys.
Cheers Kym

Dont wait ten years!! You can always take little trips, even take the kids, you never know they might get "the bug" too and want to stay and travel with you instead of stay home forever?

Welcome Scott and Kym. Love your avatar. This forum isn't one of the best it IS the best. Now take extra care in what you post because it will get turned around by some certain parties who shall remain nameless, right Mr Duck, Ibbo, Basil! Glad to hear there are more Patrols out there. We need them to stem the LRD invasion......

In which case you should study the Alfoil Beanie thread, there is a mine of info in there, all totally irrelevant but an absolute tinfoil mine of info...

Kym, the kids never want to leave, I have two girls, one 32 and one 30 and the youngest moved back in again with boyfriend but at least now they asked to tie the knot, so not much longer we should have all out of the house. We too have a few years to go before hitting the road, I am 56 and the wife 54, and with retrenchments going on at work (and I survived again after 30 years service), but the word is we might be around for at least another 3 years and then who knows. If the place does fold we are guaranteed our entitlements as we are a big international company. And after 33 or so years the payout should suit us down to the ground. We have been looking at motorhomes actually and seeing what we can either carry (step through motor bike) or maybe but not 100% on towing something, which I don't really want to do as it will affect fuel consumption heaps.
