I emailed a local MP to remind him that we still have a medical system , schools , aged care , roads , etc etc, that are in need of major funds to fix the problems .
I asked why are we still sending so much money over seas to stop illegal boat people when we need to fix our problems ?.
It took five weeks to get a reply , this is what he had to say .
Jim and Leonie,
Thank you for your email. The Rudd Labor Governments weak border security and immigration policies have lead to this massive increase in the number of people entering Australia illegally. As you rightly point out, processing and caring for people arriving in Australia via people smugglers boats is very expensive.
The Howard Government demonstrated that tough border security policies can stop the boats arriving. The Prime Minister has confirmed that he does not have the courage to make the hard decisions, and he has lost control of our borders.
I appreciate you taking the time to write to me about this issue, and I will continue to work with my Nationals and Coalition colleagues to hold the Labor Government accountable for its poor border security policies.
Kind regards,
Luke Hartsuyker MP

what a surprise if you would have asked a labour MP that when Howard was in you would have got the same answer

The reply, naturally, says nothing about the topic raised in the question.
Which is probably the sum total of the Member's knowledge of it.

And you expected Luke Hartsuyker an opposition polly to say different about a Labour government??????? If people HAVE to discuss politics on this forum then at least make it either insighteful or at least funny, but I must say it would be a better forum without the bashing of the individual parties & stick to constructive comment about relevant subjects to this website

Some times i wish there was a sub forum site for people to use to vent politics and other hobby horses so we can use this forum for fun things like travel and preparing for travel

i for one like the idea of other subjects on this forum you can only say so much about a viscount or jayco how pretty it is or it has a nice solar panel. I thought this was an open forum based on caravaning and travel, please correct me if i'm wrong. I put an article on here recently with a bit of tongue and cheek about politics and i was howled down but that article had over 300 hits and i have received over 40 replies not including 17 messages in my in box. So people if you don't like polotics or any other subjects that comes up on here DON'T READ THEM and leave other people to enjoy. I will get off my soap box as Davo6 wouild say have a nice day al

al I agree with you, yes politics does incite a hell of a lot of interest but not all good
as soon as I go "off beam" a little then the "hits" on that post skyrocket, go back through the previous posts and find the ones with the most "hits" and it will be those that are deemed "controversial" and thereby attract the folks looking to see who is arguing with who
there are plenty of places that welcome political talk, this one, most of us see as a non political non denominational forum of mainly travel content
we have tried for a long time to keep animosity out of this place and discourage tension, I am by far the worst offender as to the animosity that would reside in here, I have created some bloody rippers but that doesnt make it right, but I am learning to keep my mouth shut!
for better or worse we are trying to build a little spot where woman are as welcome as any man and their input is as highly regarded,
we dont care if anyone is white black yellow or crimson, single or married, gay or straight, all are welcome, provided their main interest is travel
we just want a "sanctuary" from all the crap that is common on other forums that includes religion and politics leave them at the door and come in with a smile
we use a very diverse clipboard of subjects and we are expanding this all the time, it's just that religion and politics has a way of "dividing" the forum or even splintering it, that is why we tend to discourage it
tons of thing to yak about
best interest of ALL members, nothing more nothing less
plenty of other areas where would be pollies can show their creative knowledge, I for one would much rather read about your last foray into the grampians or that photo of the olgas or how your grandkids are doing,
anything but boring staid non constructional politics
but anyway , soapbox duly abused and returned, just my thoughts!!

Personally.......I wouldn't have thought that our forums should be used for politcal discussions regardless of how many PMs that get passed around.
There are a million other subjects that can be discussed without resorting to the two "Socially Provocative" issues.......namely Religion and Politics.
And before this goes further let me clarify this by saying that Scientology is not a religion as such....and therefore is fair game!!
Go into a front bar of a pub and start to discuss your politics and see how long you last. Why should it be different here, just because you can hide behind a computer screen and a keyboard??
We have just managed to shut DaveO up....... and we really don't need to wind him up again!!
You are right Al......we don't have to read them.........but perhaps you could write them elsewhere?? I don't know of any other forums that would put up with it. If you read the conditions of joining most of them, they state that politics is not a permitted subject. I can't imagine there would be too many members of these forums that would enjoy discussions on politics. I would have thought most of them would be over it by now and occupying their time with much better things. Surely you must have other happier things that you can share with us.
I'm with the rest and vote politics off. Everything has a place and I don't believe this is the place for politics.

I'll wade into this debate once I master this new Icecream machine. Personally though discussing polotics is good for the soul, some people don't like it so don't read it or comment on it. It's a bit like people who live in Biege homes because they don't like colour, that implies a bland personality, and I clash with bland people. Fortunatley on here most of the bland people hang out in the solos area where they can hide from the likes of me who has an opinion on everything and speaks his mind and speaking your mind is good as well but just don't try and convince me that one party is better than the other, they are all Arthur Daly types, petty crims and crooks the lot of them and that goes for the religious types as well....

it seems we are all tarred with the same basting brush! oh woe is me to be lobbed in amongst so unsavoury characters
but I fail to see the "debate" I think if it was a "true" debate then the would be political commentators would lose hands down
I can see a rightfull expression of opinion here but that is all! nothing more and nothing less!
