Has any one done the bungle bungles in WA, & camped there ?.

Any comments would be great.

havent camped there but have seen them.

We did the Bungle Bungle Tour in 2004 but we left our vehicle & van at the service station at Turkey Creek. Stayed there overnight. We did the tour on a small bus can't remember the name of them but I wouldn't take your own vehicle in as it was absolutely terrible the roads/tracks when we did it.
Would have had to do a lot to the roads to have improved it!
But if you don't mind where you take your vehicle and are very adventurous go for it- NOT ME!
Was a fantastic tour though, be prepared for lots of walking in heat as we did. But we loved it- Aweinspiring. They say its tremendous by air but pretty pricy too!

was there 2007 road was very rough at that takes about 2.5 hours to do the trip from turn off. there was 2 or 3 water crossings not hard depends on time of year re. amount of water in crossings. would not take road caravan but off roader no problems. there was talk of banning all trailers,caravans don't know if any thing came of that. your biggest worry is the cow boy tour operators who don't give a damn about any one else the way they drive. i have been traveling for a number of years it was the only time i have come to blows and that was with one of those cow boy drivers he picked the wrong person that day we will leave it at that. regards al

We went camping in there most recently in 2007. Caravans are not allowed in there, but did see some camper trailers. We went in just after a week or so of very unseasonal rain, that had all the dirt roads in those parts shut down. That meant, when we were clear to go on re-opened roads, that the Fletcher River crossing, not far from the Highway, was running quite fast and about 2 foot deep. It has a rough rocky bed, so crossing it was "interesting". Like some others, we sat for a while and watched some vehicles do it, before we ventured in. Few in motor homes or campers were game to risk it - even Britz! In general, the road in and tracks in the Park were good - just a few sections of light corrugations on the road to Cathedral. We camped for a week at Kurrajong camp - in the generator section. This was almost empty, compared to the "quiet" section across the creek, which was chokkers - and noisy. There are water taps, and toilets provided. We like Kurrajong because it is central. In 1993, we stayed at Bellburn in the south and found it noisy from helicopters and crowded with tour operators who wouldn't stay in their designated area. A friend was there this July and said Bellburn was fine, these days. She also found the Fletcher River crossing totally dry. We explored all the accessible features, trying to time our visits to avoid tour groups. 2 of the 3 of us did the extended walk up Picaninny Creek and stayed camped up there for 2 nights. That was worth doing.

We too stayed at Kurrajong Wendyv. You have described it very well. Ranger brings wood for campfire everynight. Clean toilets and running water. Certaintly worth the drive into there. We also did the "chopper" thing and it was worth every cent. If you are thinking of going there justcruisin, we really loved them. Fasinating place!!

Last year I flew from Kununnurra over Lake Argyle and the Bungles, thoroughly enjoyed the flight and would recommend it to anyone.

As we had the van with us there was no way we were going to get in there on the ground as SHE and camping do not get along.

Enjoy it if you get in there.  Remarkable country.

Unfortunately the experiences with the tour "cowboys" leave a bad impresson of the region. Many of the drivers are not the operators, and don't give a flying fig about the bus and the comfort of the paying passengers. Some are on unreasonably tight schedules set by the actual operator who toured the region in his volvo or comfy 4WD. It gets like a busy city street up there in the dry season, as it does around Winjana and Geiki Gorges and Tunnel Creek.
