With the extreme right wing Tony Abbot taking the helm of the Libs the ETS is on the back burner.... Trouble is Tony is so extreme in his views he stands a snowflakes chance in an election...

At least that horrendous emissions tax is now on hold.
It never made any sense to me to introduce a tax on pollution while allowing the pollution to continue.
The environment doesn't recognise dollars.
There has to be a better way of cleaning up the pollution and damage without imposing another tax which probably wouldn't be spent on reducing pollution.

I fear that this is only the start of a long drawn out period of unstability for Australia.Perhaps if we had a P.M who spent as much time here as he does poncing around the World looking for Brownie points for his masters in the New World Order we would have a Government that governs for this country.I have broken a promise to myself by mentioning politics in the Forum.Blind Freddy can see the direction we are heading.Maybe the Banana Republic guy was right.Cheers.Ibbo.

I agree Ibbo. Is he the PM of Oz or a loyal and faithful servant of another world?
These leaders are supposed to be leading us.

With our current government, be it national or local my worry is this.
remember the terrorist laws?. The ability to lock up someone without first charging them with an offence?
Remember the bikie laws? where you can not belong to a group they dont like?
Remember the internet laws they are trying to pass? where we can not view what we want to?
Remember the social welfare law in Northern terrorist ? where you can not spend your welfare cheque where you wish to? And beware they tried to make that a national thing which will include many here.
Hopefully Australia will wake up before it is too late, before we grow totally numb to the impact that the lunacy of overly-social, cover your ass, and everyone-is-responsible-just-not-me politics.
I for one do not want others to make decisions about my freedom.

In my opinion..............the anti terrorist laws don't go far enough.!! If you are a normal living Australian, then I don't think your freedom is being tampered with.
Anti-Social laws..............If you want to live anti-socially.........expect problems. I don't see much wrong with that except. they not be being used everywhere that they should be used.

Maybe Smokey you should be asking those questions of your local member.
You are entitled to know where your money is going, and he or she is obliged to tell you.
While they are state taxes, it seems excessive to tax you to restore the poor old Murray when the problem is a long way upstream from Renmark.
Perhaps NSW should reimburse you and every Sth Aussie for that tax.
There's a huge imbalance here. Check it out.

Judging by the reports, and the decreasing commercial fishing quotas, there will soon be some fish excrement that will no longer be around to bother us!
Still, our major cities will compensate for that deficiency whenever there's a bit more rain than the drains can handle.
At least the effluent that get's posted in the intertubes is virtual (rarely virtuous) and has little lasting effect.

Well at least for the time being we can breath a sigh of relief.
Ruddy lost his push for the air tax.
Of all the taxes this country dumps on the tax payers, that has to be one of the most riduculous.
Now, those SA taxes. Who the hell is your local member, and what's he getting out of it besides his huge salary?
I'm also cranky with the Wespac Bank who's General Manager is paid $8m per year. How can she justify such a huge salary? No wonder they need to up the interest rates - she needs to get paid.
That's horrendous! If I was a customer of that bank I'd be out of there so fast.
All these huge corporations with their highly paid executives and board members.
The shares don't increase in proportion to the interest rates.
Something is really wrong with Australia's business community.
Where does the customer fit in to this picture?

I don't have a problem with these CEOs getting the huge salaries and I also believe that our GOOD politicians.......and I do stress good politicians are not paid enough and that is why we get the quality we get.
However............they damn well have to be made accountable.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is too easy for these people to walk away when the show goes pear shaped and THAT....in my opinion.....is where it is all wrong.
They can make whatever decisions they like......get whatever benefits from it that they deserve but it has to work BOTH ways. They have to be responsible to the level of their positions and I mean really responsible. However it is to be enforced would need to be worked out!

Thats the fatal flaw in their process - they assume we are all idiots. You see since they introduced the GST any extras have to be called levies, excise or fees. Amazing Huh?
