We were out there a few years back, just had a look at it on google earth,
the detail shown from space is unbeleivable .
Must have given the place a shake up when it hit .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I used to fly from Broome to Adelaide via Alice Springs the crater looks amazing from 30,000ft. In fact the entire surrounding desert looks amazing from the sky.
I haven't seen it from the ground yet, but one day, maybe.

Disco; it is in NT, south of Halls Creek just off the tanamai track, its a massive near perfect round creater caused by a meterorite crash many years ago.
Its several kls accross ,with a rim hight of several mtrs.
Dont hold me to this as i havent looked at the specs for a long time ,but i think it unbalanced the planet for a short time & was either heard/felt in England .
This is some thing you can research .or have a look on google earth.

I visited the Wolf Creek Crater in 2001 on a trip up the Tanami to the Kimberley and you're quite right it is awesome. The meteorite impact I think occurred about 300,000 years ago.
What may have been a similar meteorite impact occurred in Siberia in 1908 see wikipedia

The Henbury craters (between Alice & Uluru) are a 'shower' of craters of various sizes. Very spectacular.
Lake Ackraman (in the Gawler Ranges, NW of Port Augusta) in SA is an old meteorite crater, many times the size of Woolf Creek Crater.
Cheers,
Peter

We too visited the crater a few years ago. Some of the worst corrogation we struck was on the road in...off the Tanami. Took wood with us in anticipation of sitting around the campfire that night but bloooooooooody big sign saying no fires soon put a stop to that idea. Found it awsome, but must admit was not at all interested in walking to the middle of it.

Hi Justcruisin01
I hope you don't mind but I've taken the liberty of joining your photos together to make a panorama (I also used the crop function on the finished result).
Don't know why the photo appears small when uploaded as it's much bigger on my computer.
If you'd like to be able to do this yourself, I used the free ICE software from Microsoft to stitch together your photos. It's available for 32bit and 64bit computers.
We have Win 7 on our computers and it works for us.
