The army used to have a tradition that there would be just one party, so farewells were thought of as bad luck, and the blokes going on active service looked forward to a big welcome home party. As a teenager I went to a farewell party for 2 young sailors on the HMAS Sydney... they didnt come home. I've never forgotten it, and I reckon superstitions are right.

No bite from me Ibbo..........The Poms weren't that good at it anyway. LOL
Just remember who supplied the power, steam, electricity and food to this supposedly elite group.
Without the crew below deck,.............there really wasn't that much that functioned.........was there ??
Damn ...........I used to love reminding the so called "elite" about that.

Sorry Biggles can't answer that.Maybe the RAN was not given sufficient funds to purchase suitable A/C.Also I think a change of Government may have had an effect. We had the Melbourne up until 1982 when it was sold for scrap.Long time to be without air defence for our Ships is it not?Cheers.Ibbo.

Geez Basil, that was risky. What was the backlash?
Did you do something to make up for it?
Anyway birthday cake just ends up on the end in the end - up, down and around.
You probably did her a favour. Is that what you did? Yes, of course it was. You're so thoughtful Basil.
Did you get a pressie though?

Why would we want an old second hand British Aircraft carrier when all we have to do is sell our soul to the yanks (as we have done) and we can have access to their 20 nuclear carriers. (If they aren't busy getting belted somewhere else)??

With Rudd the Dudd's policies I reckon they already do, I reckon our navy needs some good target practice and maybe create a few more artificial reefs for scuba divers.
