Hi everyone, I guess you've all noticed the new banner ads that have suddenly appeared at the top of the forum page. This forum is actually hosted by a third party and that 'host' is the organisation who sells the adverts, puts them online and gets the revenue. I have written to the 'hosts' to request that they take the ads with sound files offline - it is very offputting to hear voices I must say! If we want an ad-free forum we have to pay the 'hosts' a monthly fee. Although it is a bit over our budget at the moment, we may re-consider if the annoying ads continue. I'll keep you all updated.

Thanks for that.
The picture ones are not too bad. Just a bit of a surprise to suddenly see them.
I only get them on the work computer. They are blocked on the home machine so it's no really big deal here as long as the voice ads are off.

just as a query how much would that monthly fee be, could we not sell more advertising on the cover or maybe more sponsors

Thanks Cindy for attending to this matter. As I have expressed elsewhere on this forum my concern is the nature of this particular ad. It may well be that this ad is quite legitimate but it has all the hallmarks of a scam ad.
Hi Everyone, Our hosts have written back to me and are currently contacting their advertising partners about our annoying ads. Apparently, our hosts have a policy not to allow pop-ups or other ads that trigger a virus scanner. Please bear with us on this - hopefully it will be sorted out soon.
