sitting here waiting for the boss listening to the wireless watching a pair of plovers in the mating ritual, well I think it is the mating ritual unless he's late home from the waterhole again and she's giving him what for, not that I would know anything about that!!
anyhooo!! just watching this pair and enjoying a little bit of silence I was wondering why the male of the species chases the female, she is the one that wants a "commitment" she is the one that needs a little "piece" of the male, the male builds the nest and then guards against all comers whatever the cost even chasing a whistling kite off three times it's size
he places all energies towards the nest, gotta wonder why he would bother, now I'm not drawing any comparisons here but HMMMMMM!!!
in the name of a great man WHY IS IT SO!! surely if the female wants all these things and more then why isn't she doing the chasing, why isn't the male sitting in a sandbar somewhere along the creek bed, sitting back slurping down the cooling snails, salivating over the algae, laying back enjoying a great day with his duck and waterfowl Friends
then along comes missus plover, and in comes the nagging "why haven't you taken those broken eggshells out yet, where is that down I ordered 2 weeks ago, why aren't you teaching the littlies how to fly and catch bugs, always hanging out down at the dam with your Friends"
nag, nag, nag, gee I'm glad I'm not a plover!!!!!!!!
must be a hard life!

Not always Firefly, sometimes it's a case of he who holds the gold makes the rules....then the other party with the Vagina says "hey I don't need your gold, I have my own goldmine built in".... I do think that the reason the males do the chasing is because ultimatley the reward of the hunt is overwhelming, and modt females think they are clever because they can fake orgasms but men are smarter they can fake an entire relationship if there is sex up for grabs.....

To Deep for you?Dave mate, cobber.Bloody Plovers........noisy,cackling flying morons. The worst things in the World would be Plovers.Have you ever watched a Male Plover walk, looks like Adolph Bloody Hitler, high steps, high steps.....Just where does he think he is?Dave Mate, the Plovers take over ,footpaths, playing fields,Bowling Greens. They have no respect for other birds, dogs or humans.................Just going down to check out my tinnie's mooring.at peace withe World ,until the bloody Red Plover arrives.Beware incoming, screaming, extended talons(cyanide loaded).Low passes to start with, makes sure that it is safe to bring in his Mate,..........Mrs Plover.sly ,devious, horrible, the audible attack on our ears commence with her.Now my mate Wally the Staffy has until now kept his cool.....that is about to end.The Plovers now change their stratagies from dive bombing humans to taking on Wally.Bad mistake for the Plovers....Wally is a trained Plover pirate..About this time of night I have to take a promise to Granny,Chris. The medication is starting to work.Come on Guys, lifes to short.Except if you are a Plover Pirate.Cheers.Ibbo.

(1) I was only watching plovers
(2) birds don't actually have that naughty word thing that fly said, they have a multi functional cloaca, a wee wee hole and a poo poo hole in one, pretty clever really

Maybe what you think is nagging, is the hen sending messages of love and encouragement to the rooster thing Dave. Then again maybe she is just lulling him into a false sense of security before she eats him.
Hang on, thats the spider isn't it.

I like your thinking too SmokeyD They do so much to get chased. Imagine the work they would put in if they did the chasing?

goodness me, I really must stop watching plovers,
I will I promise, honestly I will, just one thing if my dangly bit is in gear why would I have to engage my brain??
of course the pecunery size of the last drive mechanism to be engaged will have a detrimental effect on the oil (blood) starvation of the secondary implementation of any subsequent gearing engagement and may possibly cause the intermittent failure thereof
and if you understand that please explain it to me!
