Haven't decked it out yet but am eager to take my first trip. I'd like to tag along with experienced nomads or head to a location where there will be some grey nomads. I'm in the blue mountains and am thinking of places quite near me like Hill End -Sofala-Bathurst-Rylestone etc. Somewhere not too far from home for the first trip! Can someone out there offer suggestions and ideas 'cos I'm a real newbie!

Hi Jennifer, best wishes for your first trip, good choice too, maybe add Gulgong to the list. Hill End and Sofala are very historic. Don't do too much "decking out" before this first trip, just enough to get going as you'll get a better idea of what you need to get as you go. The Bridle Track from Hill End to Bathurst is probably not suitable for your rig as it's steep, narrow and windy, fine for a 4wd or "soft-off roader".
Trip planning is important, have adequate maps (don't rely on GPS alone), check distances and road conditions between your various waypoints, also fuel availability and a short trip is a good chance get a "handle" on the fuel consumption, most imortant for the longer trips. Be aware that the weather can turn less than pleasant in that area so take some cold and wet weather gear in case.
Keep the questions coming and remember the only stupid questions are the ones that aren't asked

Well done Jennifer. How exciting, yet a little bit daunting.
Jim's advice is spot on.
Go to places you already know within your comfort zone until you get used to your vehicle and what it can do, what you can do with it, keeping an eye on fuel consumption.
These big adventures begin with little steps. Make them easy steps.
You'll get the hang of it and you'll wonder what all the apprehension was all about.
As your confidence grows so will the miles between destinations.
Just look after yourself and your vehicle. It's all good.

If you go to your profile you can add it in the "signature" section and it will appear on every post you submit.
Just go out and have fun, and you only need to be a little bit organised. Cheers
