we are new to this game and looking to get a caravan to travel around Australia for 12 months. Someone mentioned to us that getting a van longer than 20foot could limit the range of sites that we can access in caravan parks. Has anyone encountered this limitation with a larger van? Any other comments?

Hello Youngun,
Some parks, not all, will ask you the length of your van when you book a site. No problem there. some parks however do have smaller sites but in my experience it just means there is less room to park your tow vehicle. I haven't as yet encountered a site that is not long enough to get our van on, 20' in length. That doesn't mean to say that someone has not had that experience. Good luck with your plans and travel. The thought of spending 12 months travelling around this great land is sooo appealing.
Terry.

Some of the older parks are a bit squeezy because they were set up in the days of little vans and haven't upgraded to keep up with the times. I have a 20ft also, and I haven't had too many troubles. The worst and tightest site was probably on Bribie Island. Narrow park roads, skinny sites. There are a lot bigger than 20ft out there which don't seem to have too much trouble. Fifth wheelers and bus/motorhomes are even bigger and bulkier and they seem to get on ok in most parks. Maybe do you homework when you book at your next destination so you're prepared or can change your choice of destination. Welcome to Nomads and Happy travels.
