Has anyone out there stuck it out for the wet season in Darwin? We are here at a wonderful caravan park called Tumbling Waters,near Berrry Springs.The heat is not too bad,was worse in Katherine.On the way up here we assed heaps of vans going south,it felt like we were the only ones heading north.

I stuck it out in a tent for a few nights in Vietnam, mostly I was under a small nylon "Hootchie" and it was not the most cumfortable experience....

Only trouble with a van is the build up of humidity. A decent fan and plenty of ventilation would be the go unless you have A/C in which case you will spend the entire wet season in your van.....

Berry Springs from memory is about 30km inland from Darwin and that 30km is a good bufferzone so you should be ok if you can put up with the torrential rain @ around 25C....
I spent an October and November at Howard Springs and that was OK, the rain just requires some modification to your daily routine....

Moving air is the main way to cope with the humidity. Wear cotton, and nothing but cotton. Synthetic fabrics stick to your sweaty skin and make it even more sticky. No moisturiser if you don't suffer from moisturiser withdrawals. Keep up the water - yes, I do mean H2O, coldies later in the day. Moisturiser clogs the pores and retards the perspiration. And the flies are really drawn to it. If you add the sweat the flies are in sweaty heaven. Keep the sweat washed off the skin and the flies will stay away. You'll perspire like hell but you won't go to the toilet much. Aircon is definitely the comfort zone, and I also use a bench fan in the van. A good night's sleep is one of the best ways to cope with the hot days. The storms are spectacular, the rain is torrential, but it's not cold. Swimming in a pool while it's raining is good fun. It's a great experience, and if you can't handle it, hitch up and head on south with the other vans you assessed. I personally prefer the wet season, in airconditioned comfort some of the time, in the pool the rest. I can't handle the cold and all that clothes I have to wear to keep warm. I keep uggies for emergencies only. The country changes dramatically once the rains start. From spindly dry grasses, sad, dusty trees to a flush of lush green. The grass grows so fast you can sit and watch it grow. Waterways fill and flow. Just keep an eye on the BOM site to prepare for any monsoonal activity. Kick back and enjoy the experience. Just watch where you are situated at Tumbling Waters that water really does tumble down that now little dry creek bed and the big snappers will come up to the high ground .

The worst thing is the  humidity .
I was up there for a couple of days in January 2007 . Unloaded at Katherine then headed to Darwin to load . Then was back up there just before Easter 2007 . Couldnt believe the humidity felt like someone had wrapped a wet blanket around me .
