Why is it that each fuel company has different colour codes on there pump handles .  Surely there needs to be a standard colour code  nation wide .

Recently stopped a GN from filling his diesel with ULP , he like a lot thought that Black was diesel when in fact at this particular outlet diesel  was dark blue .  Then there are others where you need to lift a second tab to activate the pump  which is a good safety feature solong as the hose is in the right location .

Also need to be aware that some of the Smart "A" will hang up the various hoses in different locations on those multi fill browsers,  which can be a trap for all users , caught a young hoon doing this at Nambour

Why can't vehicle, and pump manufacturers globally get together and make it so a diesel pump can not physically go into a petrol filler pipe and vicky verka.

I guess this would take money from all the workshops that make a small fortune rectifying the damage caused by this simple mistake.

I have lost count of the vehicles I have towed as a result of this.

when in south aus i put in e10 ethernol in my mazda 2, instead of normal ulp, lucky my car can take it.. or i would have been stuffed

you'd be fine with E10 in almost any petrol vehicle (it stands for 10% ethanol) no damage at those rates I know when I was with the c.f.s we were taught the common vehicular color codes, which were (back then) red petrol, black diesel and yellow water blue was never mentioned for jerrys so I guess it just comes under red

Most of the pumps I've pulled up to have green for Diesel, but then there the other coloured pumps. It's really a very dangerous practice of you ask me. There used to be different nozzle sizes for different fuels, and the inlet was also a different size. I used to be a pump jockey at a garage in the days of driveway service. Ah, the memories. That system seems to have gone to crap with all the fuel options availabel now. Only LPG has a special nozzle these days. For those who are illiterate or dyslexic it must be difficult to rely on the colour when you can't rely on the colour. More pressure needed to be put on the powers that wanna be. Cheers Chris

Obvoiulsy I'm a true dinosaur that believes you have to watch what you're doing and realise every marketing manager is out to confuse & obsfucate the average motorist that can't even change a wheel let alone read what is on the bowser....

in the cfs we only had to worry about vehicular color codes for fuel, pump colors vary from state to state and from servo to servo I tend to read what is on the pump and not the color of the nozzle

I hadnt thought of it before but I have been using the same two pumps in our home town for the last 25 plus years, ulp for the magna and premium for the camper, i dont use the multi hose one simply because it is out in the open more, I only visit our local privately owned petrol pusher, have done since we lived here I rarely come across these new multi stage jobbies, where we travel the pumps are still single hose jobbies, the multi units are mainly in cities and I steer clear of them damn things (cities I mean) if I am confronted with one of these new multi thingys I follow the hose back to it's source and read what it delivers, normally a twisted hose is a dead giveaway to a trickster, never trust a twisted hose

I've found the same goes for twisted people........

The Caltex near home had new bowsers installed last month. On the handle of each pump, the type of fuel is now written, making it far less confusing for sure.
