Leinster, Shire of Leonora, (home of the Wedgetail Eagle or the jewel of the northern goldfields) WA, has a beaut caravan park. Reminiscent of Leigh Creek in SA, and as good as any, its only $10 per night for a powered site. But the laundry has free washing machines and dryers! (Which is a bugger because I did all my washing yesterday at Mt Magnet) Dont know how long this once-closed town of BHPs has been open to the public but its quaint and a welcome respite. And having talked to a few people and done some homework, when I go to Wiluna tomorrow, looks like, at least, Ill be able to go as far as the No.1 Well on the Canning Stock Route (without the Ovation falling to bits i.e.). Road has just been graded so Im told. Having failed to find a male person with a 4WD to take me the whole route, Im thrilled to bits to get even this close. Have thought for many years now that it would be the ultimate travel adventure. (does that mean my mine...er...mind has wandering for years?)

You've sure covered a lot of miles Sue.
Be careful about the Canning. It takes a lot of planning and you certainly shouldn't consider doing it on your own.
If I was driving it I'd trying to tagalong with at least 2 other vehicles, packed with as many spare parts as possible. The track is one of those "adventure highways", but highway it is not.
Mostly a dirt track with wash outs, and some very unkind terrain. And you have to take everything. There are no shops only a roadhouse somewhere out there I've been told.
It's one of those trips I was planning to do with some friends in Broome, but couldn't go for a number of reasons. I had been working on the planning and contingencies with the others.
Confidence is a good thing. Just be careful where you use it.
The park in Lienster sounds a beauty. I hope to get back over that way some time next year, hopefully after Tassie. Thanks for the info Sue. Cheers Chris

Hey Sue, slow down a bit! There is some great stuff around there to see. There is a great Aboriginal art gallery at Laverton. You should spend a whole day at Gwalia near Leonora. Did you see the Lake Ballard art figures? Some nice camp spots about too....
Cheers, Peter
