Hi.We have just spent ten days touring the South Island of NZ.A most beautiful country,Petrol.nz$1.65 pl.Diesel nz$1.03 cents per litre. There were four adults and an apprentice adult grandaughter eight going on 30.We hired a Mitsubishi Canter mobile home.A great rental price, free pick up from motel and then free return on return from the trip. The caravan parks we stayed in were good value.Jacksons Retreat was my pick, they have under cover parking for vans, mobile homes etc.The on site facilities at all parks were good.Plenty of log fires, full kitchens,T.V and internet points. We had snow chains but never used them. Our van was diesel and was equipped with an exhaust brake that made life easier on slippy roads,no need to be checking speed with foot brake all the time. This is only a quick post.We had Wally(dog) in a kennel for nearly three weeks,he was so happy to see us,made me feel bad for having had to leave him.The good part is that the Lady who looked after him only charges $10 per night. She is at Clarence Town here in the Hunter District. If any G/N would like any info please ask as I will only be to happy to assist.Next trip to Temora early Sept.Cheers.Ibbo

NZ is a lovely place, but I would'nt want to have to live there.....A few years back we did the NZ by Rail thing and I can recomend that, strange a country where it is civilised with flush toilets that still has a viable rail network. I was also impressed by the number of Morris Minors and Fastback Vangaurds in pristine condition.....

Yes you are right about it being a beautiful country.I am not all that keen on their religious beliefs though, some strange god called Rugby Union seems to be the leader.I had to fill a gas bottle and was really happy with the kiwi way of doing so.Pull into the servo ,tell the attendant what you want, take bottle to filling point, now at this point is a scale for weighing your bottle before and after it has been filled, you pay only for the gas that you get,in other words no rip offby charging for a half empty bottle.Cheers.Ibbo.

And you can still get a gas bottle refilled without some pimply faced tosser telling you that you have to surrender your new 9kg bottle and use one of their half filled exchange bottles..... I take my bathroom scales along and weigh the cylinders just for the hallibut, I'm really good at upsetting pimply faced tossers. Next time you buy an exchange bottle weigh it, you may be surprised when you see all up it may be about 8 - 9kg. Then threaten to unscrew all the valves and let all the gas out and tell them you will blow them all to their maker unless they sell you correct weight and ask they call the Police because THEY ARE STEALING FROM YOU..... A deal will be struck quickly and you can get a bottle for free, believe me they don't want any contrary evidence that would support the "fill your own bottle" arguements....

HAH!! HAH!! HAH!! trouble is we are the "cash cows" and as such must, by law, be ripped off in every way possible, including 20 cents worth of gas multiplied by millions of bottles
I filled a gas bottle that I swear was 2/3's full on the g.o.r ,the mongrels at the hardware store charged me for a full fill because they "didnt have any scales"
