Looking to purchase a toyota 200 series GXL tubo diesel auto. Have heard some bad reports re clunking noise from either tail shaft or transmission on taking off and pulling up. High engin oil usage Vibrations through steering colum Letting in a lot of dust on dirt roads Also like to know average fuel consumption towing a2.5 tonne van Like to hear all good reports also. thanks.....Aldo

Hi True Blue Aussie.
I thought someone would have jumped all over this post offering their recommendations.
Obviously you've set your heart, and your investment on a 200 Landcruiser.
I also think you've almost talked yourself out of a 200 Landcruiser.
A park neighbour has a black 200 and hasn't complained about anything yet. He's been up the Bloomfield Track twice in the last couple of months, and it's still working. While it's not a hard 4WD track, it has it's spots and a couple of creek crossings I believe. I've only done the bottom 5 kms or so.
What about the new 4.5litre V8 Turbo Diesel 70 Series?
That's my dream vehicle at the moment.
I currently have an 80 Series which I treasure very much. "Rosy's" a good truck.
Good luck with your choice. Cheers Chris

Aldo We have the 200 V8 diesel. Had it for 9 months. Pulling our 24ft Heritage 2.5 ton averaging 6 ks to the litre with the van on. Very happy with the car. Clunk in the tail shaft is getting fixed on monday, its a modified tail shaft. Apparently there was a similar problem with the 100 series. No oil useage, that problem has been fixed. Its the ultimate towing vehicle. The GXL is the only one with the 2 fuel tanks. We are more than happy with it. If you have any more queries just ask.

Yes we got a little bit, but no more than you would get with the 80 or 100 series. If you get the 200 series you wont regret it the power is brilliant and the fuel consuption is good. Have you taken one for a test drive yet? If you hit a hill at the bottom doing 90 at the top you are still doing 90, and that's with the van on.
