We're new here. Not sure of the protocol, but it seems most people like to know what your rig is so we drive a Landcruiser 100 and tow a trailer with all our gear. We're both grey but still working so we tend to get away twice a year for a good trip, and set up and stay. Living in Melbourne now but like to get up and down the Darling, and planning a trip to Innamincka.
My question tonight is to do with gazebos. We have a very good (but old and heavy) canvas tent which we call the "eating tent". Canvas top and corners, net sides. We are looking at replacing it but need to find something which will perform as well...that is 1/. waterproof 2/. sturdy 3/. provide shade.
A lot of the new gazebos look really flimsy and I'd like some recommendations if possible please...

Welcome to the site I`m sure you will get lots of help and ideas. Haven`t hd any experience with gazebos but when we were camping saw some people with one that had net sides and looked like a lightweight plastic roofinf seemed sturdy enough as they had it up all weekend and it stayed put. Helena.

Louise I have had these things from time to time. Mostly used for one off occassions, but over time they perished, from lack of use and lost bits.
If you really want one, then I would go to the local market stalls, as most of these people use them. There you can compare and ask the stall holder about it. May be the best way to get an idea of the good n bad, and what is popular.

Hi and welcome to Nomads.
I used to go camping up in the Kimberleys and we used a gazebo net tent, with floor for our "tucker tent". It had a strong poly roof, and we used a poly tarp down the sunny side for more shade. Having the floor also reduced some sand transfer. It didn't require ropes as it pegged down at floor level, but we tied it down a little on the beach.
We used to run a shade cloth "path" from the tucker tent entrance to the sleeping tent.
There are similar versions on the market with poly sewn into one side for shade, and a floor.
Check out camping internet sites and camping gear distributors to check out the available options.
It's all a matter of shopping around, and they aren't extremely expensive. The one we used was several years old and was always stored clean and dry. In the tropics that's extremely important. Good luck. Cheers Chris
