Arrived in Karumba yesterday and have never seen so many vans in the one place. I don't think there are any victorians left at home, they are all here. We are staying at the Sunset CP, the dearest in town at $29 pn but is the closest to the point. Caught 5 nice bream yesterday and hopefully will get some more today.
I have to be back at work on 20th July so we have to start heading back to Adelaide, it has taken us 4.5 months to get here and we have a month to get back.

Ok so they must have internet in Karumba now.... Have you had a sunset feed at the Pub? Have you had a ride on the Gulflander ( runs every day in season)? The fishing was good there but I found the park very cliquey and damned noisy with people baning around at 3 am to get boats coupled up to cars and long loud discussions as the wherew the best fishing was going to be...

My mate Ossie from Bribie Is. should be up there by now in his new Jajco. He goes up to Karumba every year for 3 or 4 months. A day trip was just right for me. I'm not a fisherman. He stays at Emerald for a bit on the way up, for the redclaw. He tells me that the fishing is usually great but the company & social life with the 'regulars' is fantastic.
Don't forget to have a drink at the Purple Pub at Normanton.

I agree the people in the park were very cliquey, the problem is there are so many who have been going there for years and formed their own little groups, very un communictive with short stayers. The locals are the unfreindliest we have come across so far, it would be fair to say we won't be going back. The wind was blowing a gale for the 2 days we were there so didn't have problems with people getting ready early.

We had the same receiption in the West's Beach Big 4 in Adelaide back in February. Nobody answered when you said G'Day and hardly a smile anywhere. The weather was soooooo hot you could cook an egg on the roadway. We won't be going back there in a hurry either.
