Just wondering if there is anyone here who is interested in mediumwave/shortwave listening at all?

Hey Stew .. like to thank you for your welcome to me on the other thread. I think it would be nice to see that thread die as it is not really necessary anymore. Starting to learn how to operate in here, so the learning curve is well on its way .. Back now to this topic .. Not so much into shortwave listening itself, but do maintain an interest i radio comms, generically speaking. Apart from being a registered op/member with the HF Radio Group, I was also able to gain a VK callsign in Amateur Radio .. be it only as a humble Foundation Member .. So .. yes .. Listening to radio does often take up too much of my time .. When I get out on the road permanently Stew, it will probably get more involved .. cheers cobber .. Jon

Well theres nothing wrong with foundation, I am the same. I had aspirations of getting full call, and have been told I could easily pass same, just didn't bother as I am happy with what I get with foundation, although a bit crapped off we don't get WARC or 6m. Anyways, private me your call maybe we will yak sometime. I am still in the process of getting gear, want to get a dual-band 2/70 and a straight out 2m for the front of the jallopy and a hf rig as well, kinda leaning towards and Icom 718 at the moment, money will be the deciding factor. Theres a hamfest coming up down here in August, so hanging out for that might be able to pickup a few good deals etc. For HF antenna you can't go past the FAMPARC HF multi-tap whip. (Frankston & Mornington Penninsula Amateur Radio Club). Very well priced to. At the moment my radio gear is limited to a Icom R71A comms receiver, I love it and it loves me back equally :) Speaking of which, I was kinda spunout last night to hear the ABC's SW shower services which relay Alice Springs 782 into the Kimberly region the other night, Roe Creek (Alice Springs) and Tennant Creek had quite a good signal down here, and I could hear Katherine as the night wore on. I believe these are very low power, something in the order of 50 or 100 watts, and I only had a 15 metre lump of wire strung up out through the window of the bus! Tried to see if I could hear them today on the daytime freqs but no luck, local qrm killed everything but the powerhouse Internationals on 9 megs. Radio China Int. has had a good signal to the east coast for the last week, very strong at nights. And Baz I reckon if I mod that molar with an IF filter, eprom and a preamp that should give you 2-30MHz continuous coverage :)

You blokes need to get out more. My humble UHF is very handy in the car when I'm travelling, but I wouldn't sleep with it, and I don't care how many mhz's it has. Be careful who you listen to. Cheers Chris
