For the 4th time in a row WA has voted NO to Daylight Saving. What a wast of $10 million dollars that could have been better spent in this economic climate.
Lets hope Goverment gets the message this time around !

I can't remember the last time a referendum in Australia was won if ever, they are pure waste of tax payers money.
Have no idea how the WA question was framed but one thing for sure pollies normal frame the question to get the answer they want .
Its a well worn truth in politics "never ask a question if you don't know the answer"

G'Day Wombat,
I can't remember the exact wording, but basically if you wanted Daylight Saving write Yes in the blank box below and if you don't write No in the box.
What got in the No vote camps nose was that if a Yes voter ticked the blank box instead, it would be counted as a vote, but if a No voter put an X in the box it would invalidate the whole vote. The No vote camp said that either a tick or an X in the blank box should be counted as invalid, but they were ignored. In the end it didn't matter anyway because the No vote got up. The wording on the voting card was compiled by the pollies who wanted the Yes vote.......how biased is that ?

Reminds me of the days of the early 80's when we were having referenda after referenda to get people to have self government that we did not want and no matter how they changed the wording we still voted NO so they then held a "plebiscite" which is a specific type of referendum where the result can be ignored and the Govt can do what they want to do.... We even had an "Abolish Self Government Party" that abolished itself, the Sun Ripened Warm tomato Party were good and the Party Party Party were in it for the booze.... Such a frivolous waste of money....

Remember it well Basil the voting paper was as large as a table cloth and some of the wording in the six or so questions we had to vote on canceled the previous tick or X out altogether. That was one of Cough's little tricks to get a no win on any of the questions No such thing as a Plain YES / No answer it was all smoke and mirrors .
Lets hope Goverment gets the message this time around !
