Found ourselves with a week of NO APPOINTMENTS so figured we wouldn't waste it.
Decided to head west - maybe even get as far as Dubbo. Going via Queanbeyan, Cowra, Canowindra, Parkes, and then on to Dubbo, maybe. Who knows we might find somehwere along the way that we want to stay longer and won't even get to Dubbo.
Anyone in the area, let us know, would love to meet up.
Also anyone with any advice or places of interest that you have been to, let me know.
Thanks in anticipation.

Will you be calling into Leightons at Peak Hill ?
Scones & Cream each day at 4.00 pm, and the shower floors are heated too.
Cheers

I should have mentioned, a walk around the abandoned gold mine is a must. Fantastic sights and an easy walk.
They are just at the back of Leightons at the Peak Hill Caravan park.

Not sure at this stage if we will get to Peak Hill, but will certainly keep it in mind if we do. Love my Devonshire teas. Thanks for that Pat. Shower floors aren't an issue now, we have a new van WITH shower AND TOILET sheer heaven!

The "Dynamic Duo" will be there with bells on. Even made a nice healthy carrot cake to go with the vanilla late.

In which case you are a candidate for "Faulty's Odourless Crapper Adapter" which eliminates chemicals and leaves the smallest room smelling fresh even after the most intense curries....

Thanks for the info on Peak Hills C. Park, we are travelling between Gundagai and Dubbo in the next 2 - 3 days and have just checked out the web site for Peak Hills certainly sounds impressive so might have to stay a few nights. Right now we are free camping just south of Gundagai. Does anybody know of, or can recommend any other free camps or good value c/van parks in central NSW or for that matter anywhere in NSW! By the way when you say you are 'heading west' we thought you were heading west i.e. West Australia where we are from. Compared to going west to WA, Dubbo's almost a suburb of Sydney ha ha. Hope you are enjoying your travels as we are, who knows one day you might even go 'way out west' !!

I just thought going to Dubbo was an arvo's outing??? not a weeks affair, hell in a week you could be in some real good country like Wilpena in the flinders

Our trip to West. Aust. has had to be postponed till April 2010..... and we will certainly enjoy it all the more for having had to wait, I'm sure.
We are heading out in the morning, just for a week, and after some more investigating are heading from Ulladulla to Cowra, then Canowindra, Eugowra, Parkes then make our way back to Ulladulla.
My son (the truckie) said that the pub in Goologong is great and they have a freebie across the road. Said he stops there whenever he goes that way. Haven't seen it for myself as yet but will probably land there about Wednesday/Thursday next week.

Thanks for that, Camp site 501 (Camps 5 snaps book) list the site as Gooloogong Rest Area, Toilets, showers, water, bbq's and even power available!!?? will have to check this one out . Might go there tomorrow night (Fri) as it is 220 k's from where we are now and by the time we visit all the towns in between it will be time to set up camp then we are off to see Forbes, Parkes, Peak Hill and then Dubbo, after that......who knows......yesterday we were in Bright Victoria, lovely place, and did know where we were going from there other than somewhere in NSW !!
Have loved all the country towns we have visited so much history all with a story to tell, it's been a delight. We are staying away from the big cities where possilble, you've heard that saying "Sydney or the bush" well we've been to Sydney twice before and we much prefer the bush i.e. small country towns. So many places I am moving to one day !!

OK Ma, we believe you .....we're sure he doesn't use the pub ...ha ha , mind you on Saturday evenings they do roast dinners for $10.00 a head including dessert...
But as for the Gooloogong camp site, all we can say is, it's the best free camping site we've been to so far. Was intending to stay for a day but stayed 3 days! Hot showers, BBQ , good water and 4 powered sites absolutely FREE. However there is an honour box and with facilities like this we certainly don't mind making a donation. And the town is a credit to the people who live there, there's obviously a lot of community pride in the place, clean, safe and very helpful local people. One of the reasons we try and avoid the cities and larger towns.
