We're in Leonora (about 3 hrs drive north of Kalgoorlie WA). Severe storm warning issued for Goldfields area. I took down my annexe and awning because the sky turned a purple/black and you could see lightning and rain on the horizon. Supposed to be heavy hail storms as well.
We got about 15 mins of fairly strong gusts, about 2 mins of heavy rain and it was all over. Two hours later just some light rain falling.
Those that didn't take their awnings etc down are walking round with a smug look. Apparently the storm was supposed to hit Kalgoorlie at full force, but has moved inland and heading south

Thanks KJ. At the moment I check the BOM website twice a day - unfortunately it doesn't line up to what is actually happening on the ground at the moment. Friday was a little windy with dark clouds rolling over Leonora WA, but nothing more than that. Bloody cold this morning - everyone running round in sweat shirts and jeans even thu the sun was out. Warmed up a a very pleasant and not too hot day round lunchtime with no wind.
Forecast is slight chance of rain and maybe a thunderstorm over central Goldfields Sunday and Monday both arvos

at Kalgoorlie WA
Over the past week, there have been thunderstorms in the Goldfields region - usually in the afternoon and evening.
Today it was fine but humid and about 3pm the heavy black clouds started to roll in, the radio stations started to warn of severe thunderstorms, hail and flash flooding.
Mad rush for the C/P to get the windows closed and make sure the awning had ripped off. As we got closer (a matter of a couple of kms) the sky was orange black, the wind was extreme - branches falling onto the road and very heavy rain.
Got home - all ok.......but not all vanners were so lucky - a few in one of these Kalgoorlie overpriced C/P's were getting flooded out (on powered sites) due to un-level sites and were busy with spades digging ditches.
Supposed to be a bit cloudy here tomorrow (Wed) and then fine into next week - 30'ish in day and 15'ish at night

Here's the latest from B.O.M.........
Take action with the start of bad weather between Leinster, Bremer Bay and Eyre
Tuesday 18 November 2014 - 2:08 PM
If you live in parts of WA bounded by Leinster to Laverton to Eyre to Bremer Bay to Southern Cross to Leinster you should take action and stay safe with the start of bad thunderstorms.
This includes people in, near and between Esperance, Southern Cross, Kalgoorlie, Ravensthorpe, Hopetoun and Norseman.
This is typical weather for this time of year but could damage homes and make travel dangerous.
Keep dry Folks. K.J.

Take action with bad weather between Leinster, Bremer Bay and Eyre
Tuesday 18 November 2014 - 4:29 PM
If you live in parts of WA bounded by Leinster, Laverton, Eyre, Bremer Bay, Southern Cross and Leinster you should continue to take action and stay safe with bad weather this afternoon and evening.
This includes people in, near and between Esperance, Southern Cross, Kalgoorlie, Ravensthorpe, Hopetoun, Norseman and surrounding areas. This is typical weather for this time of year but could damage homes and make travel dangerous.
I just wonder how old the weather forecast is on the various TV stations?
You can go onto the BOM site and find that perhaps that morning they might have been predicting a thunderstorm, or a plague of locusts, but when you re-check the site early arvo, it has changed again to settled type weather.
Then when you watch the 6.30pm or 7pm TV news, the weather is still for thunder and the plague
Does anyone know how early in the day the TV stations set up their evening weather reports?
BTW In Kalgoorlie, WA, its 8.30am - very sunny and 28c and supposed to be like this now for the next 5-6 days (or until BOM tell us tonight that the locusts are coming back again lol)

Here at Greens Lake, Central VIC we had the worst weather I have witnessed and experienced here. Heavy rain, 100kmh wind and even a few seconds of hail, bugga. Big branch down near by (No, not that one).
Some damage to a couple of vans and a tent near me got destroyed. Looking out the window of my van as I do this, sun shining, no wind and a top of around 24c expected for the day. The lake looks just perfect.
What a difference a day makes.

Glad to hear you survived that ok Doug... so the new van feels safer than the Avan?
The same storm or one like it came over to the South Coast and gave us all a nice hose-down. Hail was predicted but we got lucky.
All fine today

Why do we live where we live? Because the Far south coast always cools down first when the weather is not nice. We have just experienced 41C, 38C 45C 37C over the weekend at Richmond in Sydney. So glad to be back where it was cool to start and then a lovely 26C. Glorious day.
