Now that brings back memories.
In the mid '80's a girlfriend and I did the Europe thing with tents etc, and I knew my mother was worried about us. I didn't dare tell her we were going to Turkey, Bulgaria etc, so I sent her a postcard from some out of the way place. It said "If you haven't heard from the Foreign Affairs Dept before you get this, then you know we are out and OK...."
The person below also has a story to tell.

But I must get on with getting ready for departure on our first BIG trip in almost 20 years of caravanning and I bet the person below has been on many big trips but is currently.............

Fiji in December. My sister is getting married there on the 12/12/12. Have booked accommodation - just need to organise flights now. I love going on holidays, but boy does the poor old credit card cop a belting. This will be my second trip to Fiji. On the first trip my son fell in love with pina coladas - they became his favourite drink. The person below's favourite drink is . . .

holidays :) LOVE going on holidays and doing all the checking online for the best deals for airfares, accommodation, car hire, etc. At the moment I'm busily booking our Fiji trip in December. My sister decided it would be nice to get married there on 12/12/12!!! That's ok for her, but bloody expensive for everyone else. Good thing I'm still working full time. Looks like semi retirement so we can travel has been pushed back now - need to keep working to pay off the bloody credit card!! unlike the person below who doesn't have a problem with their credit card bill . . .

Have had my share of being caught in the rain, packing away the wet annex and getting dreanched through to the skin. I have a story about the time the Pasha Bulka got wrecked on the beach at Newcastle, just as we were coming back home. It was raining so hard we just unhooked the car and left the van out on the road for a week, while we were holed up at home with no power etc. Oh, flashbacks!!!!!!

Discovered the wet season in Queensland on our first trip away in our new caravan and 4wd in 2005.
Stopped at Palm Beach caravan park on the Gold Coast, forunately picked a site on a slight rise.
The it started raining.
We have never seen rain so heavy for so long. From memory 240mm in a few hours.
Caravans around the park started to float, the water kept rising, you could not get out of the caravan park because the water was too deep in the dips.
Water still rising, our new caravan leaking like a sieve (not happy, Jan) water eventually stops rising when it reaches the axle height.
Whew! That was close.
The person below me has also had a close call?
