Captain Peter De Crespigny, in command of QF32 out of Singapore. An extremely experienced Pilot credited, along with his crew, with saving the lives of 466 persons on board the Qantas A380 aircraft. During the accident, pilots were alerted by 58 error messages generated by aircraft systems.
Shrapnel from the engine punctured part of the wing and damaged the fuel system causing leaks and a fuel tank fire,[11][12] disabled one hydraulic system and the anti-lock braking system, caused No. 1 and No. 4 engines to go into a "degraded" mode,[13] and damaged landing flaps and the controls for the outer left No. 1 engine.
Actually there is an error in the Captain's name. It is Captain Richard Champion de Crespigny. His father was also a Pilot and his name is Peter. My Error, sorry about that.
