Take responsibility for your actions that harm the environment and start minimising your own ecological footprint. Then advocate the same in your neighbourhood, then your suburb etc. Push your local member to do the same on a regional and national level. If you want to know more, just Google it. There is lots of info around and if everyone contributes, no matter how small, the world will end up a better place.

I have already made my opinion known, inside this post, and have followed as many links as I could, up to now
It appears to me that many of the articles are very one sided, (for one side or the other), and in all honesty I find that some articles indicating that there in no man made climate change, or trying to trip up climate scientists, are somewhat misleading
Snip of my original post I have read the original articles, but will admit, that I have been too busy to check all the facts, so will take them at face value
I also, (I suppose like many others), also take other environmental articles at face value
My understanding on the original articles, is that the authors are not denying that the temperature is increasing, but are calling it a natural climate change, and that it is all a hoax saying that we should stop carbon going into the atmosphere, as carbon is good
My understanding after reading other climate change articles, is that if we do not stop the temperature rise, caused by mankind, then we are in trouble
My personal opinion, (so I could be wrong), is that I have seen the temperature rise, in my lifetime I would therefore prefer to do something to slow the temperature rise, than to do nothing
I also dismiss the argument, that as Australia does not put out as much pollution as other countries, then we do not need to do anything To my way of thinking, doing nothing is the easy way out, and will accomplish nothing Doing something is the hard way out, and may also accomplish nothing in the big scheme of things, but at least we can say that we tried
I will now go with my gut feeling, that the more we can do to slow down the earths temperature, the better off our grandchildren will be, in the long run
I base my gut feeling on one small memory of mine About sixty years ago, England was thinking of going from the Fahrenheit to the Celsius scale The headmaster of my school was dead set against it, he said that when they change, we would never be able to talk about the English summer, being in the glorious eighties again
I will assume that as the glorious eighties of 80ºF to 90ºF, is only about 27ºC to 32ºC, then the English summer has certainly got hotter, than what it was

Fear mongering is rife in the subject of climate change / global warming. Your example of those chimneys depicting pollution is common and the blind choose to dismiss the truth that they ARE actually cooling towers.
Nuclear sources for power generation is another outlet for these fear mongerers. These people want clean energy but are not prepared to open their minds to other viable alternatives. While solar, wind and other methods provide clean alternatives for power, these methods are expensive, unreliable, and at times inconvenient oh! and did I say, very expensive.

Well I for one completely disagree. This so called blame is fuelled by these followers and directed at children because they are defenceless and lack the knowledge to accurately assess the actual truth.
From my observations, I might generalise and say that it is these childrens parents, our children, that all must have a four bedroom three bathroom house with air conditioning, heating, all the electric mod cons, and two or three cars in the garage.
It is this compulsive opulence that is made available to them by easy loan money and clever marketing tactics that create the needs for them to be better than their neighbours.
It wont change while our economy relies on these sales of imported goods to maintain a balance of trade for the export of, dare I say it, our coal.
I dont know about a lot of you but I do know that when I grew up me and all my friends walked to school or rode a bike, we sat in classrooms without heating or cooling, the school admin buildings did not have heating or air conditioning, our homes had a wood fire to keep warm and to generally heat up water and at times this heat source was used for cooking.
We were lucky to have a car and if we did it was one car, not one for every family member. If it was hot during summer we took advantage of shade and the breeze to cool us down and on some days we would go down to the river, the beach or the dam to go for a swim to cool off.
Another observation from me was that there was heat waves back in the 50s. Heat waves were described as multiple days of temperatures over 100 degrees F. This is just the same as it happens today.
I could go on and on but to the person who states that weare to blame, I completely disagree.
It is an extremely naive to think for a moment that throwing buckets of money will fix something that we, on a global scale will never control.
The fact that our children on mass, in this country are being bombarded with this global warming fiasco is simple that if you can convince a 14 year old that climate change is man made and we in Australia can fix the world then in four years time it is buying a vote for the supporters of this trend. What they may not understand that if the promoters do gain electoral success then things will not change as far as coal sales or usage.
These children need to know that the buckets of money that will be thrown at the guise of fixing the problem will be coming from them in the form of taxes. They also need to know that these same buckets of money will not be spent on climate change or global warming solutions but will certainly go a long way to provide our ever increasing welfare deficit. I do notice here that the governments of any persuasion in Australia blame this welfare deficit on the aged pensioner. These children need to be told the truth that we as baby boomers paid extra taxes to provide an aged pension for ourselves.
Honestly they would all be better employed to plant a tree.

I have read with great interest how my original post has been hi-jacked and has stirred up so much angst. Makes me wonder how many actually bothered to read the article and THINK about it. My reaction to it was - WOW - we need more carbon for sustainable plant growth - not less. The article does NOT dispute that the climate is changing - we all know that is a reality. It just points out that reducing carbon may not be the answer in the very long term.
Ah well - at least the forum hasn't changed - that is one constant in our lives LOL.

I think then most of us should apologise for reacting to a topic posted on a forum.
Forums are there for discussion but if the one who begins the topic is not happy with the direction the conversation is going then maybe intervention might be better at an earlier point in the discussion.
Intervention may have prevented 3 pages of posts.

So what you are saying is that the scientists are stupid and should realise that you with little knowledge are quite correct and climate change can't possible be caused by an INCREASE in CO2 in the atmosphere. Just think of all that money they wasted in gaining their degrees, masters and doctorates when you know it all in the first place.

That is one of the problems.

In this day and age vast numbers of people have been educated way beyond their intelligence, the world is full of unemployed environmental scientists only too willing to offer an opinion.
Ok so I cant resist my 2 bobs worth Lets start with Al Gore the biggest Lier of our time for what 30 years now we are doomed in 10 years time yet here we are still with our head well and truly above water , he is one of the planets biggest users of electricity and yet he has no solar Pannels on any of his I think 5 houses opps sorry Id I say houses I meant mansions , not to mention one of them is a multi million dollar mansion on the BEACH , now if he truly believed the sh:t coming from his own mouth why oh why would he buy a beach mansion , surly he would be safer on a mountain top .
Now not for one minuet do I not think we cant clean up our act the rubbish we as humans produce is bordering on ridiculous, this need our money far far more than Co2 as stated by others Co2 is the building block of all life here on earth, interestingly ignored by most it has been much higher in earths past when life proliferated .
Then theres the melting of the ice caps , yet they have grown in the last 2or 3 years in fact they are much bigger than they were many years ago in our distant past .
I guess by now many of you have put me in the climate deniers camp well Im happy to be there as I see this whole thing as one big money and through that control strategy for those silly enough to go along with .
As for the majority of scientists being believers in climate that has been well and truly debunked by the numbers of rejectors of the theory.
Why would you believe these people who cant even get the weather right tomorrow let alone next week , but you believe that they can predict the weather in 10 - 20 or 30 years from now , really how gullible .
Clean up our rubbish around the world by all means but carbon is not our enemy.
We have had two ice ages followed by warm periods already and man did not create either of them !

The media/weather people predicted a winter of gloom and doom here in SA, cold, no rain, water restrictions around the corner.
We had our best opening rain in years a few weeks ago, the crops are poking their heads through and looking good, as I type we are receiving a great follow up rain, has been falling since about 2 AM, reservoir levels already exceeding last year, great start to the season.
Australia always has been a country of boom and bust, Kidman recognised this in the early 1900's and bought property all over Australia, this enabled him to move stock from drought conditions to areas unaffected, it was said he could move around most of rural Australia without leaving his own properties, a man of vision.
