Just another update, Things are slowly drying up thoughout the Lake Eyre area making for some spectacular pinks throughout the Lake area caused by the pink algae which forms after the fresh waterways are cut from the main waterbodies on the Lake and it becomes more and more salty!
Starting to warm up also with daytime temps up in the 30's!

I've been working up to Lyndhurst last week and came through some spectacular thunderstorms to the south of Leigh Creek which forced some water across floodways. The Australian outback is so unpredictable - downpours and floodways set running, and an hour or 2 later the storms have gone, and the floodways change from trickle to torrent, or dry again. Never take the outback for granted. Always be aware of the changes you may encounter in your travels. I was leading the oversize convoy, and it was my job to warn of the condition of the floodways to the other pilot and the truck driver.

Hi all,
Here are a few of our last shots of Lake Eyre before packing it up for the 2011 Season, as you can see the Lake has turned a brilliant pink!
Enjoy summer and we'll be back up to the heart of Australia early 2012!
If anyone is down Phillip Island way drop in for a scenic of this beautiful coastline.
We hope this finds you all well and fresh in the new year.
It's that time of year again, when the temprature cools and the water flows through the heart of Australia, so a great time to pack your campers and head on up to one of the most breathtaking parts of Australia!!
See you up there!

Hi all,
Wow what a week of rain its been up in the outback with 200-300mm of rain fallen in just a couple of days in places like Leigh Creek, Clayton Station, Marree!
All roads have been closed as you can see on the conditions map of outback tracks.
Lake Eyre South is predicted to be filled by the end March!
Frome Creek is in full flood which cross's the Birdsville track just out of Marree, this could be cut for days.
It's another exciting, or disappointing time, depending on your travel plans. At the moment the road to Leigh Creek is cut from Hawker. It will probably clear up fairly quickly once the rain stops. Then travellers will have to be wary of road surface damage, especially at culverts and floodways. The unsealed roads in the Flinders will probably be closed a little while longer. Even the road to Broken Hill from Adelaide is closed. The bridge work was hampered by the floods and I'm guessing more damage has been done. No oversize work going to Lyndhurst or to Broken Hill. I'm also guessing Yorkey's Crossing around Pt. Augusta is closed. An incontinent seagull closes that track to over dimension traffic. Stay safe out there everyone. Summer has been wet.

More news on the rivers feeding Lake Eyre if any one is travelling from South West Queensland (according to BOM Flood Bulletin issued today),
Thompson/ Cooper Creek
Moderate flood levels are nearing a peak along the Thomson River at Longreach.
THOMSON RIVER TO LONGREACH:
Moderate levels will continue to fall slowly overnight and during Sunday and Monday.
THOMSON RIVER DOWNSTREAM OF LONGREACH:
River levels at Stonehenge will rise during Sunday with moderate flood levels expected until at least Wednesday. At Jundah, moderate flood levels are expected to reach up to 4.5 metres by Tuesday or Wednesday with levels then remaining steady for about 2 days before falling.
COOPER CREEK:
Minor flood levels will continue at Windorah. Moderate creek levels are expected up to 4.75 metres next Thursday or Friday and will remain steady for about 2 days before falling.
Moderate flood levels will continue to fall at Durham Downs this week. Minor flood levels are possible at Nappa Merrie by mid April.
Stay safe in your travels......
And as predicted Lake Eyre South is full. The north lake has some reasonable amounts of water in it too at the moment.
And the other news is most of the roads are open and looking to be in reasonable condition..

Thanks for the suggestion Wombat.
Thought I would share a couple of pictures I took of the sunset here in Marree a few nights ago. Plusone of a friendly Eagle sitting on our chopper one morning.

Thought on ANZAC day I would share a few pictures of our great land the diggers over all generations have been protecting. Our 'Lucky Country'. Taken last week on the Cooper Creek & Lake Eyre. Still plenty of Water & even pelicans. Enjoy!
Roads in the area are all pretty good for those in 4wd's. We have even been getting some 2wd's up from Lyndhurst. So good travelling conditions in the local area.

Geoff sorry we didn't get back to you before now - been a little busy the last month, what with the rains cutting of roads etc.
But to keep you all up to date with roads in the Marree/SA area after recent rains. Below/attached is the current road conditions from the SA Roads. Safe Travels, and if you are in Marree stop in to say G'day.
Pricey43 - yeah was pretty cool to see that magestic creature sitting there.
My biggest concern is Yorkeys Crossing around Pt. Augusta. I'm told they've only have about 11ml of rain, and the crossing is okay. I hope they don't have any more rain before Sunday.

Quick update on the road conditions leading into Marree.
Mungeranie to marree is currenty cautioned due to rutting on the birdsville, nothing any 4wd shouldn't be able to handle.
Borefield road is also now open, was closed due to the protesters at roxby downs.
Had some great weather up here recently but some cold nights!
Cheers, Marree Helicopters

Hi guys,
If anyone is travelling this way a quick up date on the roads.
Birdsville track is open, and pretty good nick in most areas. Except the inside track is still closed, Alton Station Access road.
Road between Cordillo Downs Road- Arrabury turn off to SA/Qld bordere has some cautions on it due to some persistant water hanging around (Coongie Lakes), and also somesandy areas. Detours are in place.
Merty Merty - Camerons corner is open with cautions at the soft sections.

G'day guys,
We've had a small amount of rain last night but the roads to and from Marree are all generally in good conditions.
Had a nice cold front come thru yesterday which made for some interesting lighting over the lake for our passengers.
Remember the Marree Camel Cup is on next week and they are usually a blast up here!
The current SA Outback road conditions are attached!
Cheers,
