Alexander Graham Bell (March 3, 1847 August 2, 1922)[3] was an eminent scientist, inventor, engineer and innovator who is credited with inventing the first practical telephone.[N 3]
Bell's father, grandfather, and brother had all been associated with work on elocution and speech, and both his mother and wife were deaf, profoundly influencing Bell's life's work.[6] His research on hearing and speech further led him to experiment with hearing devices which eventually culminated in Bell being awarded the first US patent for the telephone in 1876.[N 4] In retrospect, Bell considered his most famous invention an intrusion on his real work as a scientist and refused to have a telephone in his study.[8][N 5]
I do really defer to NeilandRaine ... but I guess it don't matter

I believe I'll dust my broom and make sure this is the last good deal gone down. I got no stones in my passway so stop breaking down, coz I'm a steady rollin' man at the crossroads.
I "discovered" him when I was about 15 ... STILL my favourite blues man
Well done, Dave, your turn

Thanks rockylizard,
these two are a famous pair, but only if you read early history ?
Meriwether Lewis was an American explorer, soldier, and public administrator, best known for his role as the leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, also known as the Corps of Discovery, with William Clark.
Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson OBE was an Australian bush poet, journalist and author. He wrote many ballads and poems about Australian life, focusing particularly on the rural and outback areas, ...Wikipedia
No problem, my error your gain.
Now, would your guy be Robert William Lane ?

Many other inventions marked Bell's later life, including groundbreaking work in optical telecommunications, hydrofoils andaeronautics. In 1888, Bell became one of the founding members of the National Geographic Society.[10]
