Oh, that annoys my sister, who always makes appoint of pushing me aside to do her own with the milk in last. Reminds me of my father, who used to say "you'll have red headed children if you put the milk in first" . He came from a family of red heads so I don't know what his problem was !
Anyway, my sister is always objecting to things I do, like whistling in the house.... She says it will bring bad luck as whistling inside chases the house's guardian angel away. Reckon she got that one from her Ukrainian mother in law !

Mum had lots of funny little superstitions like this. Re the milk before the tea, Mum's was the opposite, you had to put the milk in first.

We actually had tea made from real tea-leaves in a tea-pot recently while visiting an elderly relative. Milk in first... her explanation was that the cup would get stained if the tea went in first. And the tea tasted so-o-o good, brought back memories!

Yes, we love Trove as well. We found reports of one of SWMBO relies who had been
tarred and feathered by the townspeople of a little country own in Victoria (no longer exists)
and then burnt his house down. The judge in his summation chastised the townspeople and
told them never to do it again. This was back in the 1800's. Hasn't changed much has it?

Although I'm into family history and regularly find something amazing and juicy, its not at all as upsetting as finding a little mouse skeleton under some stored furniture recently.
Although it was only a couple of inches long, it felt huge, and although flattened, and mumified, I was anxiously looking for its descendants, and imagined thousands of them.
Family history skeletons are much less anxiety provoking and great conversation starters with family............"what does "restitution of congugal rights" mean? I though Uncle Jack couldn't stand his ex?" .... that started a right heated discussion!
The person below tell stories about an old uncle as well...............

As an adult it seems christmas high lights people we seem to have lost who were so special.
As a child, christmases were never about missing places in the family. It was magical and full of family and food and visitors.
The tree was a real one- chopped down from up the bush and dropped needles everywhere, but smelled so good.
Food was rich and heavy........... gravies and sauces, plum puddings and custard, chocolate, nuts, roast meat.
No air conditioning, and the house was so hot from all the cooking. (In those days we ate inside and went outside to the toilet... these days its reversed)
I remember the first year mum "went posh" and served prawn ****tails!

As for the play, these days I only watch, but that's a lot of laughs too. Water pistols and water bombs is our play of choice at Family Xmas. It all started over 30 years ago, when our 'kids' were young, and they're still at it, and teaching their kids!
Sadly this year the host family's yard wasn't big enough for all the running around dodging 'bullets', so they had to make do with watching the littlies in the wading pool. Although I did spy a couple of adults (my daughter being one) standing very close and showing them how to make big splashes.

Our last few Christmas's have been spent on the road, last year, Inland Sea Restaurant at Warooka on Yorke Peninsula in SA, today will be at Wave Crest Bar and Bistro at Hopetoun in SA. We have met many travellers on the road and many of our friends started out having met on Christmas day.

We met a couple in Tasmania who had their severely handicapped teenage daughter travelling with them in their caravan. It was quite a struggle for them as even though they booked ahead to ensure there were appropriate facilities, every caravan park had different idea about what "disabled" facilities should be like. They worked so hard to ensure their daughters comfort and give her a wonderful holiday, we were in awe at such loving parents.
