With all this BS about Climate Change COP26 rubbish, can someone please explain at 0850 today if we removed all the Coal and LPG generated power what would happen oh theres no much wind power being supplied, by about 1530 we might have approximatly 50% of the power generated from solar, wind and hydro, come 0400 with no solar and a bit of wind we would all be sitting in the dark.
That's interesting - the carbon must have been above ground originally - lush rainforests
must have abounded.
Would beat the Vaintree hands down!!
See below. Dunno how to delete this start-up.

Yes it was called the Carboniferous Period from about 360 to 290 million years ago. The age of the amphibians before the age of the dinosaurs. During this period many of the coal deposits were laid down. At the end of the period there was a major rainforest collapse caused by climate change.

Re Gundog's post above -
Note Victoria's brown coal percentage.
No wonder they all have the virus and Dictator Dan!
That stuff is TERRIBLE!
We Queenslanders will sell them some if they want!
To save you looking it up:
Lignite is the most polluting of all coal types, as its lower density means larger amounts need to be burned to produce a unit of power, and it is responsible for 20% of the country's carbon emissions. 20 Apr 2021

Climate Change or Changing ??, yes and has been ever since the Planet was born. Quite a few of us caravaners or grey Nomads have taken a turn right just north of Rockhampton QLD to head down to Yepoon and unless we had our shutters up we would have spied some Pinacles ( Rises , Mountains , Peaks ) to the right along the way towering way up HIGH and se Pinacles as i call them a full of Fish Fossils which goes to say that the water level once upon a long time ago was quite high in this area .
higher than said Pinacles and i supoose the Ice age or climate Cooling (another Climate Change ) caused the water (Sea) to recede .
Now were there as many Humans then burning Fossil Fuels Or Farting to cause this Climate Change ??..
Maybe this so called Climate Change occurs over a Given time all the time either cooling or warming up ??.
Either way it Happens and is happening and not to say we cannot be more aware of our enviroment , Planet and keep it cleaner as well as more healthy??.

Do you believe in climate change and it's caused by humans?
Yes at least in part
Do you believe you should do your best to minimise your carbon footprint?
Yes it makes no sense to do nothing considering the worst possible outcomes.
But as someone said the population is the elephant in the room and all countries need to do their bit.
Go team earth.

At last a bit of sanity among the mass hysteria being created by a natural event that cannot be stopped.Great post! Cheers

Good start to cleaning oceans etc would be to use all the subsidies for their windmills etc on cleaning up the rubbish and air pollution research ways to dispose of this safely and cleanly.
Another thing I find incongruous is the issue of cows farting. Are they serious? what about all the humans and all the native wildlife. Why pick on the cows. and I'm a vegetarian by the way. Just another way for big business to spend money on research to develop artificial food and get huge government subsidies (taxpayer money. Your hard earned)
I don't remember the weather too much but I do remember going to the local show the last week in September every year. Where I lived in western NSW It was the beginning of summer and mum had bought/made our new summer outfits. Including white shoes and socks. Wet and boggy. You could always count on it. Still the same there this year. So still the same over about 70 years.
Maybe there is climate change maybe not. Regardless, Things need cleaning up. IMHO they are picking the wrong solutions for fixing it. Our landscapes are being destroyed and disfigured. Water is as scarce as it is because of the mismanagement of the resources we have and big business making money on its sale. Why turn Australia into the food bowl for the world rather than some country with heaps of natural rainfall? Or at least limit to places where there is exesss water like the top end.
Had to laugh at the whimpering of the lobster fishers this week. Seems that they will now be able to offer more lobsters to the local markets now that China has banned them. How generous. They were exporting 90% (approx) of their catch. OK, jobs. But is it worth it? As has been said, its a ponzi scheme. We need to get back to a sensible level of production that is enough to supply our needs. Lobsters could again become a sustainable industry with no disgusting farming gong on. Grow the economy? To what extent? Why. Who is this benefiting? We seem to create jobs and then have to import workers to do those jobs.
Anyhow, that's what I think IMHO. My opinion from personal observation and no science to back it up. Oh wait, I do have an economics and finance degrees if that means anything. No science though.

Hi msg,
You and I dont often see eye to eye on some topics but your post above indicate my sentiments as well.
If they are currently blaming cows farting then I am glad I was not here when those dinosaurs let rip and melted the ice.
Jokes aside,
You said this:

We could certainly help our country by concentrating on our own local issues of pollution.

The simple answers to the two original questions for me is yes and yes. Currently we do rely on coal and gas, but there are far better long term investments to make in renewable resources and in new technologies (such as CO2 extraction from the air and conversion into liquid fuels) than to keep putting more money into coal and gas.

FYI it simply not that simple. Continent's collide and create mountains, next you have the Grampians, once under the sea, or the Himalayas.
Try googling "how mountains are created"
